Your requirements are fine - you have missed one of the most important ones - 'buyers who do not have a credit card on file'. This is a biggie as it stops a lot of people who have just signed up.
That would also stop me, I have nothing on credit, and want no credit, so by your terms, I'm unfit to buy from you?

The definition of "does not have a credit card on file" is eBays terminology for "does not have a credit/debit card on file".

You can use a debit card, verify yourself, and so not need to get credit.

I am not commenting on your fitness to buy.

i am commenting on the fact that most newly created scam accounts, ie Nigerian scammers, do not have a validated credit card.

I would prefer not to sell to you, rather than risk opening up my listings to scammers. I think most sensible Ebay sellers would feel that way.

In any event, if you use a debit with Paypal, you can add the same details into Ebay.

Ebay gives sellers this setting for a reason - its VERY good at stopping scam accounts with no validation from buying!

I want to go ahead and change my listings to allow returns.
Not sure what to put in the box for "additional returns policy details".
I have already ticked the box for "14 days" and "buyer pays return postage".

I don't really want buyers returning items on a whim, because they have changed their minds. Could I state something like "Returns where wrong item sent or item does not match listing description or photos".

    What would you recommend?
Just a reminder that I am a private seller, just selling off my surplus stuff and unwanted collections.

If you accept returns then you have to accept returns even on a whim, the buyer can return the item for any reason at all, no matter how silly. You have to accept returns on items not as described regardless of whether you accept returns or not.

In the other box I normally put further instructions such as item needs to be returned in same state as sent, payment only refunded by Paypal etc...

Are there any items you wouldn't allow returns for?

In particular, I am selling some unwanted gifts of new, sealed toiletries, some collectables in their original palstic blister packs, which would lose considerable value if they were opened, and I am selling a used smartphone.

What about collection in person items? Surely no returns for those?

I am selling collectables and toiletries am worried about buyers breaking open the packaging or the seal to try them. Shops don't allow return of toiletries for this reason, ie reasons of hygiene.

For what you are selling, if you are a private seller, I would not voluntarily offer returns.

If an item is 'not as described' you have to accept a return anyway, but as a private seller, you have no margin or shrinkage to offer returns. You are not a business, are not covered by Distance Selling Regulations and do not have their margins, fee discounts, and postage discounts, so why offer it if you'd rather not have buyers returning things?

I would not as a private seller. Yes, a buyer can lie to force a return, but the items you are selling appears to me offering change of mind returns, could leave you open to avoidable losses.

I would keep settings as no returns. However, do not state no returns in your description, that could put people off (they may think you'll be funny about returns even if there is a genuine problem).
