(I'll post the whole poem this quote comes from in a bit, so if you're a parent with offspring about to leave home, you might want to skip that post, in case it all gets a bit weepy:o)

Just the one line is enough to set me off....

    Walking Away
    by C Day-Lewis

It is eighteen years ago, almost to the day –
A sunny day with leaves just turning,
    The touch-lines new-ruled – since I watched you play
Your first game of football, then, like a satellite
Wrenched from its orbit, go drifting away

Behind a scatter of boys. I can see
You walking away from me towards the school
With the pathos of a half-fledged thing set free
Into a wilderness, the gait of one
Who finds no path where the path should be.

    That hesitant figure, eddying away
Like a winged seed loosened from its parent stem,
Has something I never quite grasp to convey
About nature’s give-and-take – the small, the scorching
Ordeals which fire one’s irresolute clay.

I have had worse partings, but none that so
Gnaws at my mind still. Perhaps it is roughly
Saying what God alone could perfectly show –
How selfhood begins with a walking away,
And love is proved in the letting go.
'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

It does not take much to set me off - my eldest set off this week on a 6 week exercise and the youngest has been gone now for 6 weeks - one I could cope with but 2 is taking me to the edge :)
But we give birth to them and from that moment we are getting them ready to fly the nest - some are ready at 16, some need kicking out at 36 but they all need to go at some point ...

Does anyone know where you can get that bath/worktop sealing strip, think it's silicone or something, for a really good price? I need about 10 metres of it

B&Q do it, but worth looking at toolstation, amazon, ebay for it being cheaper, in that order.

The empty house is very traumatic but you might have a boomerang - home every weekend or home every half term or reading week - eating the house out and making an inordinate mess ...

Hope you have a lovely holiday Sarah. If your phone is on the Three network you can, as SSM, mentioned, use it in various foreign countries just as if you were at home. Spain is one of the included countries but it would be worth checking whether that extends to Fuerteventura. If not Three, you definitely need to switch off data roaming. Belt and braces approach is to put the phone into flight mode and leave it there but just switch wifi back on (I don't know whether you can do this with an HTC but you definitely can with an iPhone).

There are at least 3 thicknesses 11mm, 22mm and 41mm I think. But they are only usually about 3m long. So be careful you are comparing like for like. polycell make one and call it sealant strip. Do you need 10m in one continuous length?
