Good morning all, it's a tad wet out there.
It is driving me mad, OH decided that the woodwork we have ended up with from the spare rooms can be cut up and burned by "us". I have done all the cutting up, apart from a bit of MDF which is rather difficult to cut. I am now trying to fit in the burning bit. There is a LOT of wood, all sitting on the patio and now wet but that is not the problem. Every day this week (apart from Tuesday which I needed) he has needed my help on job for the morning. He couldn't manage to arrange two jobs that he needed me for in one day, always the mornings. "We" need all day to burn this wood, or at least a good part of it. It might burn fast, it might not. We got home on Monday at lunch time and he thought there was plenty of time between getting home and making dinner for "us" to burn it all. He has no idea, and he might help me for a few minutes but then something will occur that means he can no longer help. He needs my help this morning and tomorrow morning, these two jobs could possibly be fitted in to today but he does not want to do it that way  I am hoping I might manage to do it next week, but I need a day when people are not going to have the washing on the line but it is not raining too badly. OH would have piles of stuff everywhere if I didn't fend it off, a patio full does not disturb him, but I hate it and am desperate to get rid of itfairclaire wrote: »Good Grief
Has anyone else except me and the usual suspects been affected by the water 'crisis' in this area??
Just seen in the news that United utilities will be contacting customers about compensation?? Why??
Yes it has been a pain in the rear end slightly. But I have a largish family and animals I've been giving cooled boiled water to and I've no other hassle than keeping 2 big pans of safe, covered water on the stove and a few more bottled waters than I usually have in. In no way have I had the sort of expense or inconvenience that warrants compensation
Over the last few days I have saw the most ridiculous moaning ever. On FB, in the press, on the news. The people on the news are the best. A single mother of 4 with a dog who 'just can't cope'....a woman who can't walk well and is having trouble carrying teeth brushing water upstairs (just a suggestion love but bring your toothbrush downstairs for a few days??) I stood next to a woman in Ts on Friday who was insisting near to tears to a poor staff member that 'NEEDED' bottled water because she had an 8 month baby who would suffer if she didn't have a bath and she puts bath toys in her mouth in the bath..........honestly there is more and worse! I also saw someone in another supermarket with a lifetime supply of bottled water
Total, total overreaction and I do wonder what would happen in a real crisis. What happened to the spirit that can cope with a crisis??
I have a different view on businesses that have lost out financially because of this and that's a different matter. Most importantly it's places like care homes, hospitals, nurseries etc that have suffered. Not Joe blogs who had to drive to Ts and buy 50l of water!
I don't want compensayshun ( I saw that variety of spelling on a post on UU FB page ) but if I get it I will be giving it to a charity that supports people in countries who struggle every day to have clean water.
Rant over
It is rather ridiculous, on the continent you can't drink the water full stop, and a lot of those people complaining probably buy bottled water anyway  I am not in the area, but I know a lot of the people locally buy water and I have never quite been able to understand why.
Another thing that annoyed me, a few years back the EU said our water was not up to standard! The only place in the EU where I have ever thought you can safely drink the tap water and they criticise the standards of our water :mad:What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Morning All - light rain and breezy here.
Josie - so glad the day went as well as it could your Dad would have been proud. Your post really touched me.
Off to As shortly to pick up CC but noticed that the Imperial Leather Dee Dee shared with us does not have the multi buy applied when I add it to the basket, but it appears if I swap one for the Lynx - does that mean it is still a goer instore. Can anyone advise TIA
Have a Good Day Everyone - weather permitting!0 -

Good morning enterprise is there not someone local who would come and collect it to use on their stoves in the winter. I have a couple of friends who have these and they pay a small fortune for the wood. If they came and collected it it would also save you a huge job!0 -

I wish, know of no-one with woodburners locally, even asked our client who sells woodburners if they know of someone that would be interested but no. It does not help that most of it is chipboard. Put the word out before I even started on the spare rooms but no-one interestedWhat is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
