Advice for 3 nigh stay at Premier Inn County Hall London

hi all, I booked for my wife and 15 yr old son the Premier Inn County Hall, Belvedere Road, London SE1 7PB about a 5 mins walk from the London Eye and a 7 mins walk to Waterloo tube station (as far as google maps says...!)

Arrive Thurs 13 Aug and leave Sun 16th Aug

Seems to have good reviews for location. Any ideas on a few other must see sights (apart from London Eye) that are accessable from the waterloo tube or even walking distance. They would rather see a few great things than pile in too much.

Do you need to book for the London eye?

Is Waterloo a handy station to explore London from?

Any good resturants (good but cheap:_)) close to our hotel?

We will be arriving at Stanstead Airport around 10.00 Thursday morning and am considering using the Stansted express train or the easybus which would you recommend and which station would I get off at and then how would I get from there to the County Hall hoterl?

many thanks in advance for any help offered

Waterloo is a great base, lots to do around the south bank, check out the south bank website for stuff to do. Walk over Charing Cross bridge for a 10min walk over the river, from there you can explore Covent garden etc on foot. I believe the stanstead express goes into Liverpool Street, from there you can get a bus to Waterloo or its a couple of changes on the tube. Not sure about Easy Bus sorry

No offence, but with all the sights unique to London available to you , why would you want to spend time in an aquarium ?

No offence taken, Its just if it was a really bad rainy day and the tube strike was still on and we needed a few hours to pass handy to our hotel.....thats all, just a last resort idea. But of course I agree with you.

To be honest pretty much any tube station in or around central London is a good place to explore from - it really is easy travelling on the tube.

Things within walking distance of the hotel are Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, London Eye, Boat trips to Grennwich, Southbank for exhibitions, events, 2nd hand bookshops, food & drink, walk to The Globe theatre, a bit further to Tate Modern, across the river to Covent Garden, a little further to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery...
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

You dont need to book the London Eye but you can get online discounts for doing so. Whilst you have a timed ticket it is the time you start queuing at not the time you will be getting onto the ride! You can buy a fast track to skip most the queue or a flexi fast track to not have a set time but you're then getting up to £32/person and for that I'd personally rather a drink in the Shangri La Bar in the Shard or Vertigo 42 to have a nice drink and the view for free
  • There is a street called Lower Marsh behind Waterloo Station which has a street market during lunchtimes and a very cheap cafe called Marie's Cafe. They do fry ups and Thai food during the day and then just Thai in the evening. It's cheap, cash only and very small venue, nothing fancy but the food is great. Check out the reviews on TripAdvisor.
