what's the deal with chuggers? have they been pushed off the high streets?

Which means they were working on commission, not collecting for the RNLI.
Partially true. There was an undercover expose on chuggers which led me to post here. They were exposing the dirty sales tricks used by them.
In the case of them getting standing orders that is true. However they now rrealise that getting people to ccommit on the streets is harder so now they get you to text donate on the spot. They get your number and then harass you on the phone to commit.
Similar tactics are used on viral text voting systems. There might be a natural disaster and you might receive a text message from a friend saying "text yes to xx_xx_xx_xx_xx, in order to show your stand for the cause to encourage parliament to take action". You assume you're texting to petition about the cause to a newspaper or parliament. But they're actually originated from a fundraiser who will forward the petition on but they have your number and they'l hammer you with sales calls0 -

They want phone numbers & addresses of people who have some interest in their cause so they can bombard you with junk mail/sales calls trying to get you to up your donation. And the TPS/MPS won't help since you now have a relationship with them.0 -

People that live in flats, with communal entrances find it impossible to display such signs.
What happens is, one flat resident lets the door 2 door people - chuggers, JWs etc to gain entry to the other flats. Then they knock on every single door.
Because most times, knocking on the front door in a flat is from a neighbour, the residents answer it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Once inside the main entrance door, doesn't each flat have a separate front door?
Surely such a sign could be affixed to your own personal flat front door.0 -

Back in June, there were about four of them operating outside our Pets at Home branch, but collecting for the RNLI.
People offered cash donations, but these were refused, as commitment to regular bank payments was required.
When I collected for the RNLI, I stood in Euston Station for a couple of hours and raised less than £20 - and I'd put £5 in myself!0 -
I'm lucky I'm rarely in during the day - did get one, youngish girl (i say youngish, looked like a Uni student only a few years younger than me) after work the other week though (actually thought it was the next door neighbor dropping a parcel off).
Told me about some new method of treating cancer or something to that effect - thanked them for informing me and I would go and research this new method, was told repeatedly to trust them and sign up as it would only take a few minutes - said I'd sign up on the web if I felt it was a cause worth signing up for.
I kinda felt sorry for her, she's trying to make a living and that was her commission out of the window, probably thinks I'm a right !!!!, but if I gave to everyone who asked me for charitable donations (I get stopped in the town center a lot, must be something about the way I look?) then I'd have nothing left at the end of every month.Professional Data Monkey
