It appears to have a grill on it too so that the OH can pretend to cook like a neanderthal (spelling?) man."And crawling on the planet's face,

And meaning"0 -

Anyway in the hope that I have, I am thinking of getting one, rather then a patio heater...and was wondering a few of things.....
1. do they really give out lots of heat?
2. do they burn the ground underneath?? - grass or paving slabs...
3. what can I burn in them?
....and does anyone know a good place to get one.....?
thanks all...a
Murtle

I got mine off Ebay for about £70 brand new.
They give off a fair amount of heat for their size, you won't be going in to get changed into shorts or anything but it's not bad.
I've got decorative stones in my garden and just slung the chimnea on them and it's still doing well, although if it's going on grass it'd be a good idea to stick it on a paving slab.
What can you burn in it? anything burnable really. I got bored seeing my christmas tree in the garden so out came the saw and now i half half a Christmas tree waiting to be burnt. You just throw things down the chimney and off you go.
for lighting it i got the lighter stuff from the local BP and a bag of charcoal. Throw some charcoal and paper in, squirt the liquid on (clear bottle with a black and red label i think), leave for half an hour and light. Never had a problem with it lighting.
I wouldn't bother using them as a BBQ, they're too low down, with legs mine is only about 18 inches off the floor when you take the chimney off. Plus the cooking surface is tiny.0 -

Does it create a lot of smoke when you burn stuff?!?0 -
The greens are opposed to the GAS ones, for imho obvious reasons.tanith wrote:Sorry but I have to agree with the 'greenies' on this one . Patio heaters are so bad for the environment. We live in a country that is cold and damp for a good part of the year and eating outdoors is restricted to the summer months usually .. Trouble is we see other hotter countries residents doing the BBQ thingy all year round and want that too................
BUT WE LIVE IN ENGLAND
I would go with other posters recommendations to shop around, or try cannock gates which sells these in several styles last time i saw a catalogue. Think its https://www.cannockgates.co.uk hope i got it right!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I've got one. Its a cast iron one and I paid quite a lot for it but it is lovely! £150 (I had to have it!). Its on legs so it doesnt burn the floor and me and my boyf burn alsorts on it!! It throws out quite a lot of heat....so dont stand too close. We throw all our paperwork on it to prevent identity fraud, we burn logs, wood chippings, coal, paper...anything thats flammable really!! We also barbeque our food on ours as there is a little shelf in it.
I would definetly recommend one.0 -
Had mine for about 3 years husband stopped me using it because of the smoke it throws out. its looks good as a garden ornament but I would really like to use it. Any tips on stopping it smoking would be gratefully received!! :j 0 -
As this is a moneysaving site, do it old style
Buy a garden incinerator, they're loads cheaper and throw off 360 degree heat and you can burn anthing on them. 0 -

How can the 'in my home' forum be the best place for this? 'in my garden' maybe but putting a chimnea in the house is just plain stupid.0 -
I bought a great gas chimnea from the calor gas centre. RRP 200 but i collected and got it for £100, which was a bargain!
