hmmm hope I spelt that right!
Anyway in the hope that I have, I am thinking of getting one, rather then a patio heater...and was wondering a few of things.....
1. do they really give out lots of heat?
2. do they burn the ground underneath?? - grass or paving slabs...
3. what can I burn in them?
....and does anyone know a good place to get one.....?
thanks all...a

Hi Murtle
Our chiminea (and I'm not sure of the spelling either!) has little legs, so that keeps it off the ground and avoids any chance of burning.
I'm not sure if it's warmer than an ordinary patio heater as I've never had one of those, but it does churn out a lot of smoke (ours is a wood burner).
It does look lovely, though, and does extend the time we're able to spend outside.
Hope that helps.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
Oh, and you can get them from a garden centre with labels on that tell you what to heat in them.
Shop around - we saved more than £20 on ours. We saw it in an expensive garden centre and liked it, but left our money in our pockets, then saw it at a little nursery/come garden centre. You can also get them from craft villages and department stores.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
I have a feeling that you can also use them as a BBQ.

The one my DH bought me for my birthday has it's own little stand, apparently I can burn wood or charcoal in it but it does say put a layer of sand in the bottom first.
Haven't used it yet so I can't say about the heat factor.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I think this post would have more readers who would able to help you if it was in the In my home forum and so I'm going to move it there for you.

Don't stand it on the grass, it slowly sinks

And don't pay extra for one with a fancy pattern, the first time you use it, it burns off :rolleyes:Bulletproof0 -

Anyone know the best type of (cheap) fuel to use in these to create as little smoke as possible?0

Sorry but I have to agree with the 'greenies' on this one . Patio heaters are so bad for the environment. We live in a country that is cold and damp for a good part of the year and eating outdoors is restricted to the summer months usually .. Trouble is we see other hotter countries residents doing the BBQ thingy all year round and want that too................
BUT WE LIVE IN ENGLAND #6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
