Nexus 7 passing away

  • I also updated my nexus 7 2012 for a Sony Xperia Z3 compact Tablet, and would recommend it to anyone, Yes it is more expensive that other brands, but it is well worth it.

I bought mine in January 2013 so I doubt that a free repair would be possible. However I'll be seriously hacked off if an update from the manufacturer has caused the problem.

    Don't suppose I'll ever know.........

I'm almost positive that's what killed mine. I applied an update, not thinking anything of it, and quickly noticed it was slowing down, becoming unresponsive, and was losing 20-40% battery in a night.

Three days later I woke up to find it was off, tried charging it and it has never worked again.

Spent days looking for fixes, and all I came up with was a huge number of posts, tweets, blog entries and news articles about bricked Nexus devices caused by a Lollipop update.

Didn't bother trying to get mine replaced though as I don't appear to have the receipt for it, and I can't find the original box either. So I just found the best deal I could on a Z3 instead.

If you do have the receipt and/or the original box though, it might be worth trying Asus regardless. If it is yet another case of the update bricking the device, then they might overlook it being out of warranty. If they come back demanding money to fix it, you could just tell them to jog on.

I may need to unplug the battery - there are videos on how to do this.
But if you are sure an update did this there maybe a small claims case against google or whoever still have charge of your tablet
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

Hudl2 is a very good (and cheap) tablet. We have 2 in this house now!
  • Quick update.

Umpteen reset attempts SEEMED to work. Had to re-log in and tablet optimised apps etc. Worked for about a day. Went weird again! Did not show either in active or sleep mode when charger was in then sometimes showed as 'in' when not connected. Started freezing again. Then going dead. And yes, I've typed this post on my phone.

Thanks for the replacement tips. I'll have a look online over the weekend and give a list to my teccy son when he's back from holiday next week.

Maybe I am the problem as the dishwasher started acting up yesterday!

My Nexus 7 went dicky after the lollipop update, seems to be back on its feet now, but nowhere near as good as it used to be. I let it go totally flat battery, then did a full recharge, removed all apps and re-installed the ones I needed. Some work okay, some are a bit slow. We have 2 accounts on it, and mine is better than the OH's - she has a screen lock password which causes a lot of issues, whereas mine is swipe and less problematic - it hardly ever leaves the house so not that worried about a password. Mostly use it for I-player radio in the kitchen these days.
I got a Xperia Z tablet for main use, which is great (first version) although the screen is a pain for needing cleaning, but bigger than the Nexus 7. Hudl is good value for money, Sony is pricey but better quality (IMO).
