Anyone bought a small tablet computer that they would recommend? Something similar to N7 would do.

I replaced my Nexus 7 with the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
However, I did manage to get a very good deal on the Z3 as it is usually very expensive. If you could find a good deal on it I wouldn't hesitate recommending it.0 -
Hudl 2 is very good for the money. If you want a larger screen Aldi have a Median 10 inch for around £150.0

It's been behaving like a wee swine for a couple of weeks. Really slow, screen freezing, touch sensitive screen not working.
I've cleared the browsing history. I'm wondering if it was a magazine reading app that I downloaded a couple of days ago linked to the local library. Deleted it, but every time I switched it on, it froze. I tried a restore to factory settings, but I can't even do that. On the rare occasion that I can switch it on 'the Android' is lying down with a red triangle on top. All in all I think it's knackered!

Do a factory reset on it see if that sorts it.0

Trying to do a factory reset fails - I just end up with a dead android with a red triangle!

Sounds like you may have been affected by the bug in a recent update that bricked a lot of Nexus 7 devices.
According to reports, what happened is that a number of Nexus 7 devices were sent an update that caused the flash storage module to fail through massive amounts of overwriting.
If you purchased the device directly from Google they may replace it for you. Some people have reported Asus has replaced their device, but even more have reported Asus have been demanding upwards of £200 for out of warranty repairs (as the only 'repair' when it is so far gone is replacing the tablet's entire motherboard).
You may be able to flash the device with a new image (instructions can be found online) but that's assuming the flash storage module hasn't completely failed, and also assuming that you have an unlocked bootloader which most casual users won't have as the only way to unlock it is in the system settings menu in the Android OS.
The symptoms of this involve massive slowdown while in use, due to the constant writing of data, and huge increases in battery drain. Once switched off, if storage has failed, the device tends to lock on the Google screen, and attempting to perform a factory reset will fail as the flash storage sector where the reset info is no longer functions.0 -
I bought mine in January 2013 so I doubt that a free repair would be possible. However I'll be seriously hacked off if an update from the manufacturer has caused the problem.
Don't suppose I'll ever know.........
