Usual reason is you cannot download faster than the speed the source pushes stuff out at .0

4.2MB/s as measure by windows is approx 40mb/s
Many websites wouldnt be able to provide the data as fast as you can download it - try downloading multiple things to prove you can get upto 12MB/s
All this has to be performed over wired - As your WIFI connection may not be fast/stable enough to reach those speeds.
What results does speedtest.net produce? Torrents are not a good test as it relies on other people uploading at a certain speed.0 -
torrents are typically subject to traffic management. Some ISPs are more aggressive than others with torrents. I used to use it a lot but when i migrated to BT a couple of years ago it became completely pointless even trying.0

I use a private torrenting site. Much better reliable speeds and i get speeds of around 8MB/S and Up's of around 1MB/S.
I'm on the same as yourself.0 -

If a torrent has a lot of seeds it should still be able to max out the connection, assuming the ISP doesn't impose limits. I agree it's not the best test of download throughput, but I have a feeling that some ISPs prioritise traffic to test sites so I'm not convinced about those either.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Any ISP that "managed" my downloads would soon be shown the door! If I paid for a 100mb connection then that is what I would expect to get.0
