MSE News: Test case may force airlines to consider claims over two years old

What's next? Compensation for a bus being late, not turning up? This is getting out of hand. We used to think the Americans had the compensation culture of the world.
Doesn't anybody else recognise that companies fined for such events won't bear the loss - it'll just put up the price for others.
Some things are "just life", perhaps some people might accept that and get one.
Jet2 (one of the worst in respect of delays) have themselves estimated an additional 50p per person per flight. Personally I would rather pay the 50p and know that if I am delayed I will receive something back however as others have said the main aspect is ensuring scheduled airlines run to a schedule.
Doubtful those with the larger delays/261 claims will put up their prices as the market is, in the main, price driven so those that 'perform' best remain the cheapest and hence attract the largest volume. You only have to look at Ryanair, their profits and bear in mind they flew over 10 million passengers in July over twice as many as Monarch fly in a year ..... why because they are cheap.0 -
When the CAA sent questionnaires to all the airline did Ryanair agree that the claim period was 6 years?0

I'm not aware of a single airline being *fined* for such an event.
Perhaps you do?
Honestly, I don't know why this is still rolling around 10 years after the Regulation became Law, it was estimated by the industry 10 years or more ago that the cost pp would only be a euro or so.0 -
Good luck with this one guys. I look forward to reading the judgment0

No. Airlines don't have fixed fares and don't have capped fares, so the sky's the limit in terms of revenues, which is why easyJet and Ryanair are highly profitable, compensation payments just dent profits a minuscule amount, they'll always be great off peak fares for moneysavers who know how to find them.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
