It's called Microsoft Office and doesn't come cheap. LibreOffice comes free and will probably do everything you need.

Office is about £110 but can be had for around £90 in some places. Office 365 is cheaper initially but the monthly or annual subscription will cost you more over a period of a couple of years.

There are free alternatives such as libreoffice which can save documents in office formats, or google docs is meant to be quite good if you use a google account.

If you work (not meaning that as it sounds btw) your employer may participate in the Microsoft home use program and you can get office for about £9.

been a long day, i did actually know it was microsoft office but the brain didn't engage. i'm a lowly civil servant so no cheapies but my daughter works for deloitte and might be able to get it but just in case i think i would like to research getting it myself.

i will have a look at these other options, thanks

They still do, anyone employed in the Civil Service or NHS and paid by them directly (not a DSO or sub contractor) can get access to the Home Use program.

Probably more a a MAY than a Will. For both organisations it depends what Microsoft agreement the department/trust has in place, as it costs a little more to have the rights to give it to employees than not to offer it.

Easiest way to check is to go try and buy it

    What about Office Online?

PS - this question gets asked virtually every month. If you search this forum for Microsoft Office you'll find the previous threads.

I have direct experience of two family members taking up this offer in the last 6 months, one works for the NHS the other HMRC.
