    Hi all :)

I've just finished my first hamper and thought I would share it with you all.

This one is for my Brother and his wife. It's a night at the movies/American sweets box.

Total cost came to just under £18 which I'm happy with. I know I'd be thrilled if I received this as a gift so I do hope they'll like it.

I got all the wrappings (bow, paper, bag) from Ebay. If anyone needs links to the products let me know. The American sweets are from B&M bargains.

    Looks fab xxx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

I'm a huge F1 fan! Some things I would appreciate/ideas for your f1 fan, and depending on your budget are:

    Team T-shirt
    F1 history book
Season review DVDs of past years (you can get these from just £3 off amazon)
    Team posters
    Team or driver mug
    Team cap
    F1 revell model kits
Minichamps driver helmets (tiny scale replicas)

Amazon have lots of stuff. You can get t-shirts/mugs etc with f1 related quotes.

Edited to say, that if they are lucky enough to be going to a race next year (were off to silverstone in July), you could include items such as ear plugs, disposable camera, flask, brolly, money safe belt clip or similar... I may just have to do myself and hubby an F1 hamper now!
It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.

Fantastic - well done! I'm sure they'll love it! I wish I was as good at wrapping my hampers - mine usually look like a dogs breakfast by the time I'm finished ;)

  • I'm doing an Xmas food hamper for the inlaws. Have seen two different types of wicker baskets:one with a lid and one without. I'm unsure how to pack it out and how to wrap it with cellophane. If anyone can advise, it would be appreciated.
  • I'm doing an Xmas food hamper for the inlaws. Have seen two different types of wicker baskets:one with a lid and one without. I'm unsure how to pack it out and how to wrap it with cellophane. If anyone can advise, it would be appreciated.

If you use a hamper it's a lid, keep it open to show what is inside, and build larger items up at the back, against the lid. When you wrap in cellophane, the lid will stay upright.

To pack everything into a hamper, first look at size and shape. Larger items generally go towards the back. If you need to elevate everything (because the basket is deep and items wouldn't otherwise be seen), pack scrunched up newspaper into the bottom and cover with tissue paper, shredded paper, or gift wrap. Generally, small items can be lifted higher because you can pack more newspaper at the front - don't keep it even, adjust according to where extra height is needed.

Place the goodies into the hamper from the back, moving forward. Try to put some things on a slant, it looks more interesting than. Everything being in a straight line. It also takes up a bit more room if you don't have much to put in, so the hamper looks fuller. If something doesn't stay up in the position that you want, add or move around the newspaper underneath. You might have to try this several times to get the right effect. Lighter items can be secured wth glue dots, or occasionally paper clips.

Use glue dots to 'fan' items such as hot chocolate sachets or anything else that is lightweight.

Once you are happy with the arrangement, place your cellophane on the table. Sit the hamper on top, making sure that you have double the height of the basket and its contents on each side of the basket. It will look too big, but you need plenty to gather at the top. Pull the cellophane upwards, making sure that the back is as tight as you can get it. This can be easier with two people. Then pull the front up and gather in the sides. If the sides are not long enough to pull upwards, leave them until later, when you can sellotape them neatly in envelope style folds. Once you are happy with your gathers cellophane, wrap a small amount of sellotape around the gather, leaving enough above to fan out. Do this fairly tightly. Secure the sides at this point, if necessary. Add your ribbon, curling ribbon, etc to the sellotaped part at the top.

During all of this, be very careful when lifting or moving the hamper, as items might dislodge. If you are enveloping the sides, you can pop your hands in to correct anything that has moved during the 'lifting up' process.

Once finished, put it somewhere that no one can knock it, and cover with a sheet to prevent dust.
  • Thank you kingfisherblue. That's a very helpful description and much appreciated.

I'm doing a honeydukes hamper this year and I'm so exited, I've almost gotten it ready.
I've spent £30 on it which is more than any hamper I've ever made but it's got a bit of everything.
I've printed all the labels and boxes.
There's bertie botts every flavour beans, choc frogs, peppermint toads, tipsy toads (rum truffle filled choc frogs), ice mice, liquorice wands, jelly slugs, jelly snakes, choc galleons, choc sickles, lemon drops, exploding bon bons (refreshers bonbons), fizzing whizzbees (flying saucers), toffee and fudge. I added some wizard crackers too which are just crackers from the pound shop with wizard gifts and jokes. there's a time turner, marauders map, mini monster book of monsters, cursed pendant,lumons/nox light switch stickers, and a snitch charm. After that I'm attempting a harry potter themed ginger bread house but that might be a disaster.

Looking forward to christmas morning now :j
