Ripped off by handy

I recently food a freebie deal by Handy, the cleaning service.
In fact the offer was exactly this:

"Handy are giving away FREE two hour cleaning sessions for your home (worth £20). Fill in your details, choose a date and time and enter payment details. The discount will be applied automatically at checkout. Get your home spotless without having to lift a finger. Please note that this offer is available in LONDON ONLY."

To claim your free 2 hour house cleaning session (worth £20), click ‘GET FREEBIE’ and supply your details. Choose your preferred date and time and find out if it’s available. Select ‘once’ for frequency. Complete the form with your details, including payment card. At checkout, you will see that £20 has been taken off the bill and you have nothing to pay."

So fair enough, I clicked the link and the invoice said £20 minus £20 = total £0.

The experience was underwhelming, a girl showed up, dusted a bit and left half an hour early. But little did I care because it was free, right?
Wrong! They later proceeded to charge me £20 and I have been unable to find out why and how to claim that back because last I remember was an invoice of zero pounds.

Has anyone had a similar experience with Handy?

What did they say when you asked them?

No response as of yet... I just asked a friend who got the same deal and she also got charged. Bit shocking, really
  • Same thing happened to me!!! I'm in shock! During check out and payment stage- handy confirmed the 2 hour cleaning would be £0. When I checked my credit card transactions today- they charged me £20 pounds!!! Can they really get away with this???

Good to know it's not just me. I recommend everyone who fell for this deal to check their bank account and complain.

Rip off aside how the heck can they claim that a 2hr cleaning session in London would cost £20???

London prices would be £20 per hour minimum I'd have thought.

Generally about £10 some even as low as £8. A lot of competition!!

Top tip - if you want it to feel like you're getting a "handy" from someone else, sit on your own hand for a good few minutes until it goes numb. Cheaper than paying £20!

You're digressing from the main topic, y'all!

Good news the refunded me the £20 but it took a few emails back and forth with their customer service so it wasn't that easy.

Glad you received your refund - but the crux of the problem was why they charged you (and others it would appear) £20 for something that should have been £0
  • If it was free how did they get your card details?
    Thinking critically since 1996....
