Talktalk Home move woes

Options
I have a talktalk TV essentials package, recently I moved home to a new build flat, and asked them to move my package...

initially they couldn't because the postcode wasn't registered yet, so my put my services on hold, now i have set up the move and engineer date but basically all that has happened so far is they have charged me £75 until i return my TV box because they say i'm not in a suitable area for the TV essentials.

I didn't cancel this myself, they (i assume) deemed 5mb estimated line speed to not be sufficient, and my monthly charges remain the same @ £26 so why i am being asked to return it is a bit of a mystery to me.

I have been on the phone to them a lot! I have an engineer coming to set up everything on the 13th, and i'm going to be commencing a new 18 month contract at the same price sans TV box and have to pay £75 deferred return fee by the 10th.

I'm quite annoyed, my old contract was until december, so £72 cancellation fees according to TT, (but very hard to get exact figures from them) i still have a cooling off period for the new contract (i assume) as i'm within two weeks for the move and i'm wondering if i should cancel or go with someone else?

any advice would be great

  • I guess i'm wondering if talk talk taking my tv box back is grounds to cancel, seems like they have changed the terms with the new 18 month contract? paying the same for less. seems like a sneaky tactic to nick £75.

You are moving and are breaking the contract and liable to pay outstanding balances and return equipment .
If they are able they will move you and its not their fault if they cannot supply the same services .

Choices are you pay off existing contracts and go with a new ISP at the new property .

( i still have a cooling off period for the new contract (i assume ))
I would not be sure of that .
  • how is moving breaking the contract? i didn't change anything apart from my address. there aren't supposed to be any charges for changing address.

Because you are contracted at a specific address. TT do not guarantee universal provision at any UK address, not does any other provider. A home move is normally free, but you commence a new minimum term contract of 12 or 18m-that is the trade off.
If a service is unavailable at the new address then you are liable for an ETC if still in minimum term.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
