  • As nobody seems to want them i'd say get what you can for the items. If they won't sell then give them to friends or a charity shop.

Oh please, please, please do your homework before giving them to charity. Charities and charity shops have very, very strict rules about the toys that they can use/sell. As a former charity shop manager I can tell you that the vast majority of toys that were donated to us legally have to go in the bin. They end up in landfill and it costs the shop an awful lot to dispose of them as they have to pay commercial disposal rates which are significantly higher than domestic. It's a complete lose/lose scenario. Even when the toys are in a state that they can legally be sold, they don't really sell as customers don't want them and you end up selling them for the tiniest fraction of their value. It's a nightmare.

If you really wanted to give them to charity I'd sell them online (even as a job lot for convenience) and then donate the profit after fees to charity.

There are often local charities that work with families who love donated toys. Home- Start, Womens' Aid, WRVS may make good use of them. depends on what they are and other factors - you can contact them and ask.
  • They are yours, so you can sell them/pass them on/take to charity shop. Over the years, I have given lots of stuff to friends and I have always told them to do whatever they like with them. However, if I managed to sell something I had been given, and I made a mint ( eg a rare toy ) I would probably give them some of the money, but it is so unlikely to happen. I sometimes wish I had no morals!:D

Take it all to a charity shop or give it away on www.freecycle.com
It's amazing what people give away on this site and if there's something you need you just ask and hope that some kind person can help.

If I had given toys to someone and their kid had outgrown them, I'd expect the toys to be handed on to someone else who could make use of them. I wouldn't ask for money from the EBay sales, though.

  • These were not presents, they were donations of unwanted toys so no dilemma in passing them on to benefit others either through charity or sale although any proceeds you make ought ethically be used for toys that your child would not otherwise have had, certainly not to benefit the parents.

why not make it a team effort... work with her to sell them and make some money to spend on something else she likes (taking some amount for yourself if you see fit)

Gives her a bit of practice with the life skill of managing money/items, also involves her a bit - you have every right to sell your kid's stuff if they're still a kid of course, but I know I'd have been upset if my parents had sold things that I didn't use but still had an attachment to without even asking. I've fondly dug things out 20+ years later to be all nostalgic with :). Fair point on clutter though.

Pass them on either to someone else you know or a charity or freecycle.
