GE Money scamming me out of money and now they destroy my credit rating

Options
about 5 years ago my card was used frauduantly while I worked abroad, it was a topman card and they went to spend about £200 in 3 seperate transactions.

I found out about this when I returned fromw orking abroad, and promptly phoned them up. They said they had to trace me and demanded I pay the money back now, I told them I couldnt of sued the card as was abroad at the time and requested credit card slips for proof of signature.

One of these slips duly arrived, which did not bear my signature but a close resamblance to the one on my card but the other 2 transactions were never prooved and they were removed from my card.

The transaction with the signature was £96 so i sent it back and asked them to inverstigate. The guy said it would be invistagted and the money removed from my account. At this point i returned abroad until 9 months ago.

I get back to find a letter from them demanding £426 pounds for interest and another trace fee plus more default charges....

I phoned them up and they promised to investigate, all I have had so far is letters saying they have received my letters. Until today where they have threatened me with default on my credit rating, bailiffs and court action???

They say they are re invistigating but it seems it isnt going to go my way as it wouldve been cleared up years ago and I wouldnt be in this situation now.

What can I do when they send the final letter saying they cant do anything? Whats my next port of call? im so stressed and worried about this and just need some advice.

I wouldnt mind if I had used the card in the first place but this has all been caused by some fraudster who used the card years ago.
All hail the Jack Daniels Swozzler!

  • If it is proved that you didn't use the card, you will not owe anything. Your credit profile will also be amended, but make sure that you insist on this being done.

As for the letters, they are system-generated and are standard letters for everyone. If you miss a £4 minimum payment, it's the same letter for when you miss a £250 minimum payment. At 3 months overdue, your account is passed to Viking Services who attempt to collect the balance, and then it is passed onto a specialist debt collection agency. If, however, your account is being dealt with by the Fraud dept, there should be a block on your account to prevent this happening.
