lanzarote holiday?

Hi guys

We are a 30 year old couple who love going Gran Canaria but want a change but like Spain, was thinking of Lanzarote as someone said they have heard its nice, we are after a bit of a holiday where is stuff to do like visiting ruins or coach trips in mountains etc, somewhere we can maybe go for two weeks and do different excursions as well as a few odd days on a beach or at the pool?
does anyone know which part of Lanzarote this maybe?

We love Playa Del Ingles as love the long beach walk most days.

thanks

In my opinion, the only things worth visiting in Lanzarote are the Timanfaya National Park and Cueva de los Verdes. Cesar Manrique's architecture is interesting too, if that kind of thing floats your boat.

I found very little to do in Lanzarote, did the volcano and had food cooked on the fire pit. Visited an underground cave system and a grotto - did all those in one short day and that was it.

There is no modern history/ ruins etc and the landscape whilst unusual, is quite bleak.

I found absolutely nothing to do there except chill out, eat and drink - perfect :)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • We went on an excursion through Last Minute Travel ( to Timanfaya) which was good although they did that annoying thing of stopping off at places we didn't want to go where they try to flog you stuff - "wine tasting" and that sort of thing, but probably all coach tours do that. There were no ruins though and the landscape is fairly barren. Plenty of opportunities for nice beach walks though.

TBH, if you want a change from Gran Canaria I would give the Canaries a miss altogether, not that I've been to the other islands but they all seem quite samey.

Lanzarote can be a bit like marmite. Some people (me) love it, and others would never go back!!

I'm not sure there is enough to see to keep you occupied for a whole 2 weeks, but Timanfaya, Cesar Manrique, and Mirador del Rio are worth seeing. Famara Beach is lovely too, unspoilt but not many facilties.

Playa Blanca is our favourite resort on the island. Some lovely beaches, but not particularly long, if you like a walk and a paddle. Nothing on the scale of Maspalomas!!!

We hire a car and go out and about....but beware San Bartolome!! It seems you can get in....but can't find your way out again. (twice now we got lost in that place - down is narrow side streets!!)

Hope you find what you're looking for.

    Playa Blanca ;)

I never wanted to go to the Canary Islands, but after my OH and I had a bad bout of flu last November, we had a week in Playa Blanca to recover fully.

One of my mates from college (back in the 80's :o ) lived in Playa Blanca for several years, and his wife has contributed a lot to a thread about the area here...

We really enjoyed the town and it was totally different from what I expected with some lovely beaches and long coastal walks.

    Hi guys

Thanks for all the reply's, maybe not go for a 2 week holiday, but now intrested in a week chilling in Playa Blanca, and the thread helped a lot :)

Back to the original question about doing a 2 week holiday with good excursions, maybe coach trips in mountains etc is there anywhere people have been that can recommend, doesn't have to be Spain, and not to close to the Tunisia side's?, when we first went Playa Del Ingles in Gran Canaria, we did a 2 week holiday and we did loads, the boat trip, Port De Morgan, Shopping trip, Safari trip in the mountains etc so was plenty to do, we have now done all this thee and do still like going Playa Del Ingles as its still a fab holiday just chilling and the lovely beach walk most days :)

Just want a holiday with excurions.

    thanks

I'm no expert on the Canaries, but if / when I go back to Playa Blanca, I'll definitely get the ferry over to Fuertaventura and explore that island too. Maybe have a week on each island.

I went with my mrs a couple of years ago. We were about 27 at the time. I dont mind doing cultural things and exploring a bit, my mrs prefers the beach/pool and bars/pubs etc.

Neither of us would go back again.

We go at least once a year for a total relax/do nothing holidays. It's absolutely perfect.

It's cheap, almost always hot, so much choice of lovely food and the beer is ALWAYS cold ;)

Me and my partner are 28 and 26, we love the party lifestyle of Ibiza however, we're just as happy doing bot all in Lanza!
