My wife's last two digits are 02 and she gets paid on a Friday.

Did you see post 17? Did your wife start receiving her state pension before 6 April 2010?

Were there any special circumstances in her case?

Otherwise, the relatives I have who are in receipt of SP since 6 4 10 are all paid in accordance with the NI number/day of the week system described.

And this was the point when new claims started to be paid in arrears rather than in advance.

This has always caused confusion as the standard periodicity of 4 weekly paid by BACS previously paid 3 weeks in arrears and 1 week in advance.

I did read post 17, and it still makes no sense. My wife is not a widow, she started receiving her sp in Jul 2008, and gets paid on s Friday, not a Monday or Thursday, or even a Tuesday as suggested.

I guess it's just one of those things that can never be explained!

    Thanks anyway fj

Basing the pension payment date on the NINO only started in 2010 so will not be relevant for anyone retired prior to that. This was largely done to align payment dates for people transitioning from a working age benefit so there wasn't a gap. The SI with explanation is here.

Even now payments can happen on non-standard dates.
