State pension payment

I am at a total loss to understand this. My partner qualifies for his state pension in September 2015. His birthday is on the 5th and the pension service said his first payment will be made on the 8th September.
He queried this first payment date because he thought you were paid weekly in arrears. BTW he requested his pension weekly.
They said it depends on when the payment cycle is. So based on this it appear he is not having to wait a week before his first payment.

Been raised many times before.
Whilst he may lose out when the pension starts, his heirs will get the extra week when he dies.0 -

He thought as they work in arrears he would not get anything until 14 September based on his NI Number. He is pleasantly surprised but seems an unfair system for someone whose pay date is at the end of cycle.
As you say the issue has been raised before.0 -
I have had another look at his letter from State pension and it states he will get £130.00 per week as FROM 8 September. Bearing in mind his birthday is 5 September are we correct in assuming the first payment will be 8 September. His normal pay day will on a Monday according to his NI number.0

If memory serves, he will get the first actual payment on 14th September and it will be pro rata.0

As I understand it, he will be entitled to State Pension as of 8th of September.
But as the pension is paid in arrears, he will receive the first payment a week or so later. (His NI Number will determine which day of the week his actual payment is due.)0 -
His first payment will be made on Monday 14 September. 0

Thanks everyone for your replies and yes I agree the first payment will be 14 September despite of what my partner was told by State pensions.0

You can work out your partner's pay day from his NI number. I think historically pensions were always paid on Monday, but now they are spread over the whole week. (Although for the first week the pay day might be different as not to have too large a gap.)How it’s paid
The day your pension is paid depends on your National Insurance number.
Last 2 digits of your National Insurance number
Day your State Pension gets paid
00 to 19 Monday
20 to 39 Tuesday
40 to 59 Wednesday
60 to 79 Thursday
80 to 99 Friday

UPDATE.
Well we have contacted the DWP today and advise the first payment of £129.59 will be paid on Monday 14 September and then every Monday thereafter.0 -
Sorry to hijack this thread. I was just checking my partner's SP payment date, and think he has the worst case scenario. He qualifies for his state pension on a Thurs and according to his NI no, his payment day is a Wed. So would this mean that he will not receive his first payment until the 2nd wed following his birthday ie his birthday is on the 9th (Thurs) he won't get paid on the 15th (Wed) so he will then get it on the 22nd (following Wed). Is that right? Before doing something... do nothing0
