Failing to Provide Details

Hi
In August 2014 I sold a clapped out car that I was using for work on Ebay as I no longer had use for it. I sold it to a gentleman from Blackpool who came on the train (to Yorkshire) to collect the car, filled in the V5 and went on his merry way.
I sent in the log book within 48 hours.
Around 4 weeks later I received a speeding ticket for the vehicle, after it had been sold and from a street in Blackpool. I emailed the issuer (Preston) and advised that I only had the guys name and telephone number, they emailed me back stating that the matter had now "moved on" and to fill in the section 172 and return with the details, which I promptly did.
2 days later ANOTHER speeding ticket arrived along with the notice from the DVLA to state that the registered keeper had been changed. Admittedly I did not deal with this ticket as I felt sure that all the records had been updated now.
I received no reminder notices for either offence and assumed that the matter was closed.
I then received court papers stating that I was being prosecuted for failing to provide driver details, I returned the papers with a "not guilty" plea and explained the situation as above.
I have now been summoned to a trial at Preston Magistrates Court on 9/9/15.
I genuinely thought that by being honest I would avoid further prosecution but I now face 6 points and a fine through no real fault of my own (other that some naivety)
Can anyone give me any advice regarding a defence?
Where can I find out if the purchaser has been prosecuted? Surely if he has then there is no case for me to answer?
Will the court even listen to me or will they blindly pursue conviction?
Thanks in advance!

Be dishonest and cause yourself more grief. Do you really need the poll?0

Probably not, thought it might be interesting to gauge public opinion though with regards to doing the right thing and getting in trouble, or not and probably getting away with it.0

Anything more constructive to add rather than slating my poll?0

Yeah, you asking for people to conspire with you to pervert the course of justice. You've already by your own admission committed one criminal offence. Don't make it two and jail time.0 -

You won't get away with it.0 -
I'm not sure what you mean? I haven't knowingly committed a criminal offence nor am I asking anyone to conspire with me. I am asking if anyone has advice with regards to defending myself when I go to court. I have been completely honest from the start of the process however I could have just said "I didn't receive anything" and maybe heard nothing more.0

So how come you are still receiving tickets to your sold car. ?
Did seller fill the V5 book and did you fill ?
And then did you sell the bit to DVLA. Then it should all be okay.0 -

This happened in the time it took for the DVLA to process the change of ownership.0 -
