I make my own bread but thoroughly enjoy the occasional warburtons.1 -
Lots of lovely recommendations there, thanks very much everyone. If I'm not careful I'll be eating more bread than usual!
I've tried a couple of 'traditional' label Hovis recently which are nice. I agree with you JackieO, hard to beat a slice of bread from an uncut loaf with butter and jam on as a treat(I used to work with someone who lived alone and said that her favourite tea was a cheese and pickle sandwich for savoury followed by a jam sandwich for pudding!)
I hadn't realised that thin sliced wasn't available any more, this fits in with another thread, discussing portion sizes available these days. Sometimes we're eating more without realising it aren't we?The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

Factory made bread is not my favourite, but it does tend to last longer and freeze much better, which can be useful. However, the Allinson wholemeal bread in the green plastic bag is unusually good, and not too expensive at £1 a loaf in Iceland.1

Thanks Ben84, haven't been to Iceland for ages. I'll take a look
Sometimes you just forget about shops don't you? I used to call into one when it was near where I worked.:)

well I love a good bread too but to be honest im only sfter 2 slices of tescos 40p ish white bread I bought and froze for son to make toasties in those toaster bag things and I am very surprised ,granted I did have peanut butter and sliced banana on it so bread was hidden but for the price it was lovely, my preference is hm wheaten bread easy to make and cheap too but that tescos stuff was good too xxxC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Thanks for that. I know my Iceland has cut back on the range of bread it stocks but I'll check.
ETA:Mysupermarket says it's £1 in Asda and Sainsbury's!:D1 -

Iceland was kind of off the radar for us for a long time too, as we're one of the households who still haven't bought a freezer, so I never thought to go to a freezer shop. I figured it would be full of stuff we couldn't buy. However, I do go to buy the bread sometimes as it's 50p cheaper there than in Sainsbury's. They do also have non-frozen things in packets on shelves above the freezer cabinets.1 -
Thanks Ben84, we have one next door to an Aldi in the next town so planning a trip there one of these days. We're enjoying a marvellous variety of breads at the moment due to the recommendations on this thread, so thanks everyone.
One of the things that I must do is label the baker's style sliced loaves that I've been seduced into buying! Nice to do the research but not a lot of good if I don't know where I bought them!:o
One big thing that I've realised is that leaving them to defrost in their packaging has really helped. I thought that it would go soggy and the crust would drop off. So thanks again for all of your tips:TThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
