Nicest Sliced Bread?

I gave up eating bread around 18 months ago, and as a result lost just under 2 stone. But when I did eat bread it was usually the soya/brown stuff from Icelands, think its called Bergen it cost £1.00 a loaf then, don't know if its gone up in price since but it froze very well and didn't fall apart when defrosted I too packed it seperately in four slice packs wraped in either foil or cling film to tuck into empty spaces in the freezer.probably its something on toast that I maybe miss from bread as I was never much of a sandwich eater anyway. But I have got used to crisbread now and also I enjoy rice cakes (weird I know, but they do grow on you) I also use either low fat cream cheese on crispbread and not butter (only use that for making shortbread for my DGC at Christmas) so rarely even have butter in the fridge.1

The Low GI bread from Percy Ingles is fantastic. When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!1

Thanks for all of the recommendations and advice. I've been halving the loaves to freeze so maybe smaller portions might be better.
I've got access to most of those shops mentioned (including Greggs, thanks Petula, I've frozen stotties from there but haven't tried the poppy bread) I've made a list and will try them all.
JackieO I seem to remember Bergen being recommended for ladies who were 'going through the change' years ago so it mst be loaded with goodies! I haven't heard of Roberts or Percy Ingles but will search them out!
I have thought of going back to making my own bread but then we would probably eat more. I've always thought that bread with a crust didn't freeze well?
SailorSam I think that I saw a post from you recently where you were using your slow cooker? I would love more info on that as I haven't got an airing cupboard anymore:(The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Another fan of Bergen bread here, often on special offer as it can be expensive.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I got Burgen on offer at £1 in Asda at the weekend.

Looking here seems the same price in Sainsbury's but I know Iceland round here have stopped stocking it.
Which wholemeal would anyone recommend? I only eat one slice a day maximum so don't mind paying a bit extra if necessary.1 -
well its over thirty years since I went through the 'change' and I'm still alive and kicking so it must have some good nutrients in it
:):).I liked it because I liked bread with a bit of 'bite' in it.could never abide wishy-washy white pap that goes as bread these days .best of all is an unsliced small hovis, unsalted butter and a realy good pot of jam with a big pot of tea to accompany it, very old-fashioned but delicious, with maybe a slice of fruit cake to finish it off with.

Warbutons for me too, but the medium sliced. I don't like the thicker slices of bread previously mentioned.1

I loved the unsliced loaf they done. Not sure if its still available as we rarely see Bergans bread here. Was a tiny loaf, very expensive compared to other bread, but that tiny loaf would last me a week as it was so filling
