Barclays Message Against the law to do business

viable-uk
I tried to apply for the Blue Rewards Account (Have basic Barclays account) and immediately given:
Thanks for your recent application
Dear xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx
We weren't able to complete your application.
The law prevents us from doing business that involves certain individuals or countries where particular circumstances apply. And we apply these controls widely across our business as a matter of policy.
Your Barclays team
What the hell does 'The law prevents us from doing business that involves certain individuals or countries where particular circumstances apply.' mean?
I currently work in law enforcement and vetted to MV level, not been in debt for 8 years, a good amount paid in monthly etc..
The only possibility is I had a BO 8 years ago, but the law does not make it contrary to do business follow discharge, with nothing on my public record for a couple of years. Any views?

Do you know the names of the 6 countries banks cannot do business with?
Any connection with any of them either directly or indirectly?0 -
Could you have selected the wrong country or residence (eg Ukraine instead of UK?? or something similar) May have triggered an automatic decline.0

The form was already completed as I was applying from within my Barclays basic account after logging in.
The closest thing I have to international is Amazon, and that's shipped from The Midlands
It is curious considering I already bank with Barclays.0 -
Look up the FATF blacklist. Unless you are personally blacklisted, it would be assumed that a country on the FATF blacklist has come up on your application, maybe in error.0

What does the form say about- your citizenship
- your residency
What do your Electoral Roll and Credit Reference Agency files say about these two pieces of personal information?0 -
Yup everything looks correct and no link at all to anything beyond England and Wales. I have written to Barclays Complaints and will refer it to the Ombudsman and Information Commissioner if not satisfied.
Thanks for your suggestions .0 -
How high up in law enforcement do you work? Any chance you're considered a PEP?
If not, any close family who might fall into the category?
Reference list if you're unsure:

I think there must be a mistake on your application - it is easy to accidentally change something - as the poster above says - UK to Ukraine.
Your security clearance won't really be relevant - I have a high clearance but still jump through hoops the same as everyone else.0 -

Are you saying that the law prevents a UK PEP from having a current account? Makes no sense to me.
Undoubtedly not, but maybe Barclays have made a business decision to not provide accounts to PEP's or ones with certain other circumstances as it's safer to just not bother, and then probably easier to just say no with a vague reference to "the law" and wash their hands of the application than provide specifics.0
