Black Box Removal after insurance is cancelled?

*In*need*of*advice*
My son had a black box fitted to his car last year as it was the only way he could afford insurance! His insurance is due for renewal in 3 weeks but he is wanting to renew with another insurance company, and now he has 1 years no claims he can afford insurance WITHOUT the black box.
So..... does anyone know if the previous insurance company will want the black box back when they realise he is not renewing with them?
The T&C's state that they MAY request the return of the black box if renewal is not taken with them but in reality has this ever happened?
It seems if he requests removal then they will charge him £90 but he isn't really worried about it being there ... so just wondered if they would be bothered about getting it back?

Who is it with? All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

Just tell them that you want to "lapse" the policy - don't use the word cancel.
Don't even mention the box, 99.99% of the time, they will just deactivate the SIM card in the box after a few days so that it stops transmitting data. It's really not worth the hassle of getting it removed as once the sim is dead it's useless anyway. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -

Ok thanks.
It was his intention to just wait for the renewal to come through with the proof of no claims and then just insure elsewhere. It wasn't his intention to advise the 'old' insurance company that he wasn't renewing. I just wondered if this meant that they would still collect data on him though? If they want the box back it's not a problem but probably could do without the agro if it can just be de-activated.0 -
Make sure that the current insurer will not auto renew his policy if he has no plans to speak to them. Its possible they could renew his policy with his existing card details then he will have two policies to pay and possibly a cancellation/admin charge to boot.0

Do they have to advise you if they are 'auto renewing'? I can't see anything in the T&C's ?0 -
I would have expected the Black Box people to be ride on time0

Normally it will say on the renewal something along the lines of you do not need to do anything we will take the money from your account.0
