What tips do you want? That allowance is not valid for roaming, so use it outside the UK and you'll pay the roaming rate. So best to find sources of free wi-fi in France or buy a local data SIM on arrivalNo free lunch, and no free laptop0

If you live near Stevenage, you might be able to pick one of these up for £2.99.
Otherwise they are around £8 for 1GB or £20 for 3GB
Alternatively, if you think that you'll need more data, you could take out a 15GB one month contract for £15 and call to give them your 30 day notice as soon as the contract is activated.
You can use Three data abroad(in France) though of course there is no guarantee of network coverage. Don't expect blazing speeds either. Link
A local SIM could be a better option. Costs
