The other approach is either a roofrack or a small trailer. Either can be removed when not in use!

Yep! Strap kids to roof bars or drag them along behind the car in a rickety trailer as you hurtle at 60mph around bends. Time of their lives!

We had a galaxy and there wasn't much boot space with all 7 seats up. However it sounds like you only need 6 seats, and if you only put up one of the seats in the back row there might be enough space.

I should warn you that we sold the Galaxy due to poor fuel consumption, and expensive tyres (run flats at £250 a pop).

Another to consider is the Peugeot 5008.

Thank you everyone all food for thought and research. I would go to the next size up as suggested but when I google people carriers the ones I mentioned are all the come up.

Ive got used to my massive estate car sized boot!

We've had several 7-seaters over the years and our favourite by a mile has been the VW Sharan. It's got three full-size seats in the middle row (essential for when grandma is sitting in the middle seat) but it has to be said that the boot, although a lot better than the Zafira, is still not very big with all the seats up.

I saw a VW transporter shuttle the other day - that looks like it must have a big boot...

VW Transporter Kombi or Shuttle? They do various seating configurations up to about nine, and if you get a LWB one they are gargantuan inside.

Take a look at the BMW 2 series tourer, it's a rather large beast and the newer Zafira too is much larger than it's predecessor.

Thank you. Just doing lots of research now. Think we've ruled out the "part time" 7 sweaters so looking at the next size up ones.

If you want seats and boot space, you will probably need to start looking at small van conversions/minibuses as suggested in post 17. Mercedes Vito is another option.

I think this is the route we are going to go. Or take the double pushchair out with us and see if we can fit it in the "part time" 7 seaters with only one seat up. I would rather not run such a large vehicle when all 6 of us so rarely go out all together.
