I have two cars and two motorcycles, all tax-paid. I guess that means I pay a lot more road tax than most motorists.

No, you pay the same as all motorists, and cyclists, and pedestrians, nothing. :D

It is vehicle excise duty you refer to, which is mainly spent on funding 10% payrises for people who tell the rest of us to tighten our belts and make do with 1% or even a pay cut. :D

Apart from that I agree 100% with your comment.

Hate crime, don't be stupid, you don't have to be black, gay or a Muslim to ride a bike.

But it is a hate crime.........

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_crime

It's basically any criminal act against a minority that lives outside the aggressors social norm.

In the case of cyclists, bikers, etc, it's because they're breaking social conformity by not driving a tin box with four wheels.

Bikers get less hassle only because they encounter less cars, because of the speed they travel.

If a biker is doing 40 down a 40 limit road, he'd encounter maybe 2 or 3 cars, very little chance of encountering an idiot and even if he did, he'd be a dot in the distance before anything counld happen. BUT a cyclist on the same stretch of road will undoubtedly encounter almost every car that uses that road during that time, thus the chances of finding one idiot increases exponentially and the low speed means they really can't get away from them.

When I go out in the kit car, I get hassle from drivers too. If your different, your a target, simple.

People who aren't pedants understand perfectly well that "road tax" is shorthand for "Vehicle Excise Duty".

Please try a better source than wiki.

Crimes committed against someone because of their disability, gender-identity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation are hate crimes. I don't see cyclist mentioned there do you?

Personally I think they deserve each other - a pair of prats.

The car certainly passed the cyclist far too closely, however I did notice that the cyclist at 37 seconds into the video passing very closely a pedestrian - to me he seems as arrogant and unpleasant as the car driver.

I cannot but wonder if he chased the driver purely to gain footage for youtube.

In this case, its probably a good job the fat old man was outrun, a few grazes and bruises are better than a murder charge.
    It only takes one punch.
I would suggest he buys a bike and gives it a go on the dark side , he might lose a few stones or three / four and regain the ability to keep his balance.
Looked to me like his gut was winning the race from the off out in front and pulled him over. :rotfl:

The motorist looked like he overtook the bike with plenty of room to spare.
The cyclist was a complete t1t for following the driver and almost knocked down an innocent pedestrian (37seconds in).
The driver attempted to park but evidently became aware of the nutter on the bike stalking him.

The nutter on the bike started shouting at the driver and the driver reacted aggressively.

Then it all went pear shaped with the nutter on the bike turning tail and running away and the twit from the car falling over in the gutter.

They were well matched really and it's all another big yawn...

What does your highway code say about cyclists and how they should treat other road users? At 37 seconds in, the cyclist failed to yield at the junction and almost mowed down the poor pedestrian crossing the road - would the police not be interested in that? Very reckless and dangerous.
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

It hasn't been road tax since 1937 if you want me to be pedantic ;)

The point is it is not spent on the roads, they are funded from general taxation, which is the pot that VED goes into I suppose.

Having 5or 6 cars does not mean someone pays more towards the roads than a cyclist.

The cyclist could be a 45% taxpayer on £300K, then he would pay more towards the roads than the motorist, and therefore have more right to use the road that he "paid" for. :D

And that sounds like hate language against someone who is not physically fit, perhaps you should be brought to book for a hate crime as well.

Unfortunately, this sort of sneering attitude from the lycra elite towards those who choose not to ride a push bike is far too common.

Ask 20 of your motoring friends. Many will wrongly say they pay road tax which funds the highways.
