No More Buying Unnecessary Toiletries Until...August 2015

As a forum (and thread) newbie, I have a small manifesto -
1. I will stop watching Lisa Eldridge 'How To' videos and coveting all of the products!
2. I will take stock of my toiletries and use what I have before buying new!
3. I will treat myself to a new tube of Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream (the HG of all HGs in my opinion) when I've used all of the products on my bathroom shelves!*
* I have actually picked up a tube twice this week and then (reverentially) put it back on the shelf. With tears in my eyes .....
Welcome to the thread. I totally agree with you re: the YouTube coverting although I'm pleased that I've been watching the pan the palette type vidoes as it's opened my eyes to the quality of some drugstore brands that I'd love to try.
Another UU but a bit of a cheat really. Emma has had a mini bottle of YSL eye make up remover in the bathroom since Christmas 2014 which only one application in it. Have been nagging her to UU. Last night I used it cos I'm sick of seeing it lurking on the bathroom sink and she's away so hopefully won't realise it has gone. It was a lovely product. Won't repurchase as it's costly.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Hi all,
Three UUs for me this week:
Sainsbury's Antibacterial Honey and Willowbark Handwash 250ml: Love the smell of this! WDBA!
Boots Bergamot and Berries Body Spray 75ml: This is my HG and smells divine! WDBA!
Heaven Orange Blossom and Neroli Hydrgoel 10ml: This was part of my beauty box and feels very much like a 'princess product' - i.e. smells nice but it's expensive and I don't think it did anything. WNBA.0 -
Another UU from the PP list:
John Frieda Frizz Ease - WMBA - i think it did tame my hair a bit, but it's always fuzzy and fly-away until I straighten it.
PP list looks like this:
Garnier 7 Day Moisturiser - nearly all gone, it's got a v. runny consistency, not sure it's supposed to be like that
Burts Bees Lip Balm
[STRIKE]John Frieda Frizz Ease[/STRIKE]
Garnier Pure Active Moisturiser - couple of days left
Nivea Soft Moisturiser
Nivea In Shower Moisturiser - can't squeeze the last out of the bottle, having to take the top right off and stick a finger in ... and then inevitably drop lid in shower
[STRIKE]Tresemme Liquid Gold Perfecting Treatment[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Nicky Clarke Shampoo[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Nicky Clarke Conditioner[/STRIKE]
Original Source Blackcurrant shower gel - about a week left
Neil's Yard Bee Lovely Hand Cream - gone v. runny0 -
Hi everyone
I'm just going to take a deep breath and check the title of the thread before I ask this.... What do you guys think about purchasing beauty goods in duty free? Are there any real bargains to be had or is it all tricks with different size bottles to the ones we can get on the high street?
I'm asking because I've got a couple of trips coming up where there may well be a chance to buy duty free, and I'm in the market for a few things. I've checked prices on Clarins own website and on ebay for the size I want, so I know how much is too much.
Does anyone know a duty free bargain when they see it? Please share tips - should I start a new thread?0 -
just to prove that I am using up my cupboard of toiletries, not just thinking about getting new ones, my latest UUs are:
Elemis soap - wnba unless bargain. hotel freebie
Miller Harris citron citron shower gel - something dolly said up thread chimed 'princess product' pricy (but I got it as a tk maxx red sticker), smelt lovely but not much effect. felt v luxurious though
natura organics energising shower gel - bit tingly, good in the morning, have never seen it for sale.
garnier ultimate blends shampoo/conditioner/serum sachets - wb, was impressed with how silky my normally quite dry hair was. Need to examine the ingredients to work out what is doing that.
Kiehls creme de corps - wba if I was made of money. Such good long lasting moisture, love how it makes my skin look.
couvent des minimes hand cream - wnb came in beauty box, didn't love the smell, there has to be more effective ones in my cupboard.
Olay eye smoothing pads - wnb, another 3 boxes left.
Green People 24 hour brightening creme - this was really long lasting moisture as well. Wish I had saved some to fly with. v moisturising without feeling 'too much' on skin. Skin felt quite smooth even without serum which I usually use under a moisturiser.0 -
My rule for buying at Duty Free (and in sales, for that matter) is to only ever buy something that I know well and would buy at full price. That keeps me sensible!
Most products are sold in the same sizes, with the exception of some cosmetic collections (Clinique, etc) that aren't sold on the high street. These make excellent presents, so I sometimes stock up on them before Christmas.
Also, most airports will offer 'buy now, collect later' on Duty Free, which means that you stay within your baggage limit. That keeps the cost down too.) Check before you buy!
Have a lovely holiday!0 -

My experience is that if you live in the UK and travel, there is no such thing as duty free bargains in beauty - or there is very little.
However where I'm from, it is expensive and buying it from airport would generate serious savings.
Because of that, I kept the habit of buying stuff from duty free up until 2 years ago and then realized there is very very little difference between high street prices and duty free and it wasn't worth the hassle at all.
However I do browse a lot and most of the times I do know the prices of the stuff I want and I will have a quick look at the airport to see if there is anything.
Only exception to this could be perfumes perhaps but that is again debatable.ally.0 -

Thanks for the welcome! Sorry, didn't spot it earlier0 -
So, I've spent the evening doing inventory - and I'm actually a little surprised.
