Believe it or not, organised crime don't put badly cloned cars through the VIC, otherwise they would be caught! Even the government has realised the VIC is a joke and it is being abolished in October, no doubt to save money and make a few more people, "early retired", but as the VIC has found only around forty failures in around a million vehicles presented for check, it really is a complete waste of time.0

Caught 40 vehicles but deterred how many?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

So you think the government charging one million honest people for a worthless VIC is a worthwhile piece of legislation? I'm sure your pro stop and search, "just in case".
Rung cars are sold every day to the unsuspecting, going to the trouble of fixing a damaged one isn't a useful way of a criminal making money.0 -

NO the new owner does after they have paid organised crime for their bargain !
I did VQ13 exams in the Police for around ten years , we found at least one "Rung" car every session we did , never more than 12-15 cars invited to each . A VQ13 was a notification from DVLA to the Police that a written off car had been taxed , which generally meant someone else had bought it .0 -

Thats the thing though, honest people are paying for a test. similar to me paying for an MOT when I know my car is fine.
Fixing a damaged car is not cost effect for criminals, isnt that the entire point of the test. They do not fix the cars they get someone to steal an identical one and swap the numbers over.
No repairs needed. Isnt that what the test is for to determine if the car is the same one that was damaged?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Minrich, you do realise that it is fact that VIC has been a total waste of time and consumers money, and apart from the governments zeal at reducing the civil service and its agencies, they are abolishing VIC because it is entirely ineffectual? Insurers have done nothing but add to the pain and annoyance of claimants by "requiring" a VIC on cars they already know the identity of and have no reason to doubt their provenance. VIC as a matter of public record, has an impressive strike rate of 0.004%. If you are the individual who wants to keep it; write to your MP. Otherwise let buyers make meaningful examinations of the metal in front of them, the VIC meant nothing. Keep taking the exams.0

For a 4 1/2 year old BMW to be written off you are looking at significant damage. However a lot of flood damaged cars get cat C as the insurance assesses assume the electrics will be bust, which may not always be the case.
A friend has just had a bumper repaired on a late MK3 mondeo and for the bumper to be fixed and sprayed was just over a grand. had it been an early mk3 mondeo no question that would have been a write off. Late mk3s are still £3-4k, early ones are maybe £500-10000
