Virgin BB (cable or non cable?)

I'm thinking of changing my ISP to Virgin but a bit confused by the different packages?
They offer 2mb unlimited cable @ £10 p/m for the first 12 months but also offer non cable ADSL with up to 8MB unlimited for the same £10 when switching current provider to Virgin. If it's just BB that I want would I be better going for the non cable 8mb with no set up costs?

You need to check what speed your "up to 8Mb" will actually be...if you're a long way from the exchange you won't get anything near that.
Given the choice, I'd take the cable connection every time...as the ADSL business isn't fully integrated into Virginmedia yet.
If you already take other service like tv or phone, you can probably get 2Mb broadband chucked in for nothing....or get 4Mb for a tenner...they're looking for customers.
Also rumoured to be speed increases for the lower 2 and 4meg coming soon.0 -
If you're considering Virgin, I presume you're aware of their customer service problems? If not, it might be worth searching this forum. I've just taken them to court and won. They were as much use to us as a 3 legged donkey!0

Can you give some more details about it? So other forum users are aware and if in similar situation, can do the same thing?0 -
If you are in a cabled area, they will only supply cable and not ADSL. As with all ISP's, there are happy and unhappy customers! Some of the unhappy customers would probably be unhappy with any ISP i.e. if they can't follow the simple set-up instructions or configure their wireless routers security etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thanks for the replies. I've been with EFH Broadband since they started. They too have a lot of angry peeps but to be honest I've never really had any problems and never needed to phone cs. I requested and received my MAC code yesterday but deciding who to go to and reading all the various posts for & against is doing my head in. I might ask my current provider what's the best deal they will give me as a long term loyal customer and stick with them a bit longer.0
