Hello,
I thought id share this with everyone .
two days ago i phoned BT to moan about their price increases and the big gap between other providers prices and theirs hoping to get a reduction .
The jobs worth i spoke to was not prepared to offer me a new deal so i said ill be leaving them.
However this afternoon i tried again , and compared Talk Talk to BT , matching my package the.
Success i got a new contract from BT for 12 months with line rental @ 17.99 , Infinity 1 unlimited @ 16.90, BTTV @ 5.30 and free bt sport .
An excellent result and proves that different people have different levels of discount they can offer .
Have a go yourself , its worth a go

£40/month aint cheapDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

LR £17.99 pm is dearer than BTs current price of £16-99 .
BT TV standard package is free + activation charge .0 -
When you consider new customers can currently get Ininity1 (unlimited) with line rental, weekend calls, BT TV and BT Sport HD for approx £6/mth taking into account Quidco cashback and the £125 Sainsburys gift card then the OPs retention 'deal' is very poor indeed.0

Problem is if you are already with BT you can't get any of their packages designed to attract new customers. I have also tried phoning BT - twice. Took over 20 minutes to get through the second time. All they would offer me 1st time was BT Infinity 20GB and Anytime calls for the same price I am currently paying for ordinary broadband and anytime calls =£38.29 per month. They would wave the £35 activation fee. On the 2nd occasion, despite quoting PlusNet's Fibre and Anytime package which was meant to be a lot less (see my rant re PlusNet elsewhere), the best he offered was my current package for £30.34 per month. That is basic broadband 10GB only plus Anytime calls. I told him I was going for the PlusNet package but all he advised was I would have to pay BT a 'cease fee' of £30. Now we don't have to ask for the MAC we seem to have lost the power the negotiate the price down. I haven't got time to waste searching anymore or waiting on a phone line for 20 mins to get an answer. I have spent over 8 hours trying to sort a new package. This is why a lot of people don't switch. All the good deals advertised only include evening and weekend calls, not Anytime. When you ask for Anytime the deal suddenly changes for the worse. I will be sticking with BT.0

All BT prices are rising from 20th Sept. Even though I just took out a new package on 1st July, I found that I have 14 days to contact BT after receiving their email about the increases and cancel with out any penalty. They offered me the same package as other posters but I said I wanted to save money not spend more, so reduced my broadband to basic and anytime calls for £37.49 which includes the line rental and caller display. If you do change suppliers, and want to keep your email address, BT will charge you for every email@btinternet account you have. Its worth knowing that all the providers including Plus net are increasing from Sept. It is frustrating that all the good packages are reserved for new customers. I cant get virgin in my area and I don't want Sky.0 -
This is the statement from OFCOM which has now taken effect:
Ofcom has also found that some consumers were caught unawares by mid-contract price rises and were not sufficiently warned this could happen when they signed up to their deal. In some circumstances, consumers may also have not been made adequately aware of their right to exit their contract, or of the amount of time they had to exercise this right.
To address this problem, the Guidance explains how providers should communicate any contract modifications, pricing or otherwise, to consumers.
These measures include ensuring that letters or emails about contract changes should be clearly marked as such, either on the front of the envelope or in the subject header. Notifications of price increases must also be clear and easy to understand and make customers aware of the nature and likely impact of the contract change.
Where relevant, information about the customer’s right to exit the contract should be made clear upfront – for example, on the front page of a letter or in the main email message, rather than via a link. The period within which consumers can cancel their contract (Ofcom’s guidance sets out that providers should allow consumers 30 days) should also be made clear.0 -
SSE are offering free BB for 2 years plus they are also offering fibre for £10/mth. There's also cashback available for punters switching from BT. Tell BT about this deal and see what they say...0

i just renewed my BT broadband & TV package as i wanted BT sport Europe for free, and asked about a reduction.
They agreed to £12/month for unlimited infinity 1, The entertainment package for £5.
so, all in all, not a bad reduction for a 5 min phone call; not as good as new customers but not bad.
All for the 12 months of my new contract0
