Car seized MID showing no insurance but was insured

If he was insured there will never be a court case.
Only if someone actually tells them. If the only information given is the info given at the time of the stop then there certainly will. To suggest that the authorities are never incompetent to check and recheck would be quite naïve.
Besides I see no harm in actually getting the info from the insurance co and passing it on. Do you?0 -

Even if he were to be summonsed it would be dropped if he turned up at the first hearing with proof of insurance.0 -

The prosecutor would never put it before the magistrates. But as usual from you, glass half empty and scaremongering.0 -
OP check the registration number shown on the certificate is correct, it's not that uncommon for a mistake to be made with this which means the police would not be able to find confirmation you were insured.
If the above is correct, ask the Insurers to confirm you were covered at the time the police stopped you. The term for this document is a letter of indemnity.
In future carry the Certificate or have a digital download of it on your hone. If you produce a relevant Certificate of Insurance to the police and they impound your car you will be able to recover the pound and release fees and possibly any consequential losses if you've produced a relevant Certificate at the time of the stop and they still impounded your vehicle0 -

He still shouldn't be charged on this occasion, but we need the op to report back on that.0 -
It's not unknown for insurers to not be able to upload the days new policies to MID due to MID having technical issues. Happened to me.
Luckily, spotted it when I tried to renew Tex online.Never Knowingly Understood.

Dad's car was showing as uninsured because the person that entered the
data put a letter O instead of the number 0Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

No charges to face then as if OP has evidence that he was indeed insured at the time of the stop, then he can save himself the hassle and the UK taxpayer the cost of a court case.
Too many people have discussions in pubs etc about "War on the Motorist" when they can solve most problems by not breaking the law or by being proactive when they are not, but being accused of it.
I did say contact the Police in my post,;) but it is not always successful, twice I have had to go to court and produce a certificate of insurance. After contacting the officer involved and the enforcement team. ( a fleet policy not showing a vehicle as covered)
The OP said the relative collected the car, when they did an insurance certificate for them or for someone able to collect the car must have been shown, and validated. Then later an FPN arrives it is either a mistake (contact the enforcement team) or the relative was not insured or not showing as insured at the time of the stop. (take the proof to court or contact the enforcement team)
Usually if it is an incorrect seizure no fee is payable (or it is in my area) so maybe even the next day there was a problem validating the insurance. We need more information from the OP.
I agree it should work your way and simply proving there is no case should see it dropped, but I have found it not too be so simple sometimes.0
