Since then he has now received a letter saying he will be fined £300 and have 6 points applied to his licence?? How can this be right, can anyone throw any light on this and if you know who he can contact??

You are correct, he has received a COFP, which will become a summons if he doesn't accept it.

I still would have expected the wheels of process not to have sent a COFP if it is on the MDB for the date in question.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

They would have one it is called an certificate of insurance, with a start and end time and date!

Certificate arrives in post, I then cancel the insurance, but I have a certificate.;)

It's not in their pay grade, nor will the be interested on their fixed term or zero hours contract. Officer issues a TOR the next set is a conditional offer. Why should they be bothered to check?

I wonder if he failed the attitude test at the time of stop ?

My BIL was stopped by a traffic car because he flagged up uninsured. He had no CofI with him so they went home with him where he produced the certificate ....... with a mis typed reg. They told him to get it sorted and went away.

Wait for court date? What really poor advice!

Why do you know another way of challenging a FPN?

Very true, maybe I should have wrote a valid, verifiable certificate of insurance! ;)

I always thought the Police phoned the Insurance company to confirm validity of the insurance and if the MID was actually up to date before the vehicle was impounded.

It is not unusual for people to Insure a car just after being stopped, not suggesting that is what has happened here, as they have not been aware of a problem.

Every time I have insured with an online provider, one of my policies is Swift and they just send you an Email confirming cover.

You have to got to your Swiftspace and download a Certificate and Schedule yourself.

Yes get the information to the police and/or CPS, and the charges can be dropped before going to court. No charges to face then as if OP has evidence that he was indeed insured at the time of the stop, then he can save himself the hassle and the UK taxpayer the cost of a court case.

Too many people have discussions in pubs etc about "War on the Motorist" when they can solve most problems by not breaking the law or by being proactive when they are not, but being accused of it.

If he was insured there will never be a court case.
