Switching providers and avoiding fees

Options
I am currently with plusnet internet and my 12 month contract ends on the 4th of august. Yesterday I received a call saying if I renewed my contract I would get a lower rate so I renewed it. Reading my confirmation I realised it had increased from my 2.50 introductory bonus. A few weeks ago I received a letter offering 2.50 again for 12 months. I tried calling this morning but after talking to one person I was put I hold again so hung up after a while. I have decided to switch to talktalk. Today I ordered my contract for next year with an estimated go live date of 14th of august.

Will talktalk contact plusnet to cancel? If so, will it be within the 14 day returns period for the plusnet contract I ordered yesterday? Can I cancel plusnet up to 14 days from the start of contract or yesterday?

How can I have the least amount of time without internet? Most importantly how can I ensure I get no exit fees? Is it worth contacting my bank for them not to take any more direct debit orders from plusnet?

Thanks

As i understand their is no 14 day period for an upgraded / renewed contract and you are in contract for 12 months with PN.
Read the PN terms and conditions .
  • They told me I have 14 days to change my mind over the phone but I have to pay for any services I use. Pretty sure that was from yesterday. Do you know how long it takes for talktalk to cancel?

Incorrect, there is no cooling off period for a contract renewal or extension. You are now in a new 12m minimum term.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

...have you used your broadband since yesterday? If so, then as others have said, your new min. period has commenced!!:(
