I don’t know whether the circumstances beloware something I should get the police involved with – any advice would begreatly appreciated,
I cracked myiPhone screen a while ago and so on Saturday I went to a new shop in town, whoadvertise they can repair any mobile phone screen. The reason I went there wasthat a friend had gone there after he got his mobile screen replaced troublefree. I took it in on Saturday morning. They said that they could do it. Heasked me to switch my phone on (I’d switch it off as I thought that how they’dfix it) and unlock it with my lock number – which I did. He even scrolledthrough my apps and looked under the setting app. My husband and I went back anhour or so later and he said that there was a problem internally – a wire hadcome loose or something. He said to leave it with him and collect it on Monday.
We went tocollect it on Monday. It was a different chap – but this was the owner of theshop. He said that the screen was now fine – he even gave a new screenprotector. We chatted about his new shop and how I should pass around to myfriends how great his service was (!). Lastly before we left (but after we’dpaid), he said that we’d need to charge the phone up as the battery had runflat. I got home and started charging my phone. I put the SIM card in andturned the phone on, but all that came up was a red screen. I thought I’d putthe SIM card in the wrong way round, but when I checked, the SIM card in right– but there was still a red screen.
I walkedback to the shop in the rain, but he’d closed (this was at 5.05pm – though thesign said he was open till 5.30pm!! I wonder why??).
My husbandtook the phone back on Tuesday morning. This time the guy that served him wasthe guy that we saw initially on Saturday. My husband explained what hadhappened and this guy tried to brush him off. Firstly he said that when he’dswapped the screen, that the phone was switched off so he had “no idea” about thered screen. However, this was the guy that said to me I needed to turn my phoneon and unlock it – which I did! Once my Husband said this, he then said thatthey were under no obligation to fix the phone!!! We’d asked them to swap thescreen for a new uncracked one – which they did. However, the phone was workingperfectly when I gave it to him – it just had a cracked screen. Whateverhappened to the phone internally, happened after I gave it to him. My husbandleft the phone with them again and they said that they would “see” about it.I’m going back this afternoon, but I’ve a feeling I’m not going to get back afixed phone – though if I do I’ll be very happy.
The thingthat concerns me, is that if they do say that there’s nothing they can do – isthat correct? They’re clearly trying to get out of the fact that they’ve brokenmy phone but they have no intention of doing anything (or replacing it). Ifthis is the case, can I report them? They’ve broken my phone and seem to betrying to get away with it.I’m not sure it’s a “police” matter, but I don’twant them thinking I’m simply going to leave the shop with a broken phone. Isit just a matter with threatening them with the small claims court and TradingStandards?
What should I do?

It is not a police matter, what crime are you thinking they have committed? Poor service or bumbling repair aren't crimes.
If you can prove the problem was not caused by you between the time you picked it up and returned it (if they are as bad as you say they aren't going to admit to giving you back a defective phone) then you could consider small claims.
Speaking to TS is probably the next logical step if they don't sort the phone while they have it.====0
