When do you next sign on? What I do when I get a job, is to not tell the Job Centre I've got a job, until the day before I have to sign on, therefore I get the maximum possible of money to see me through to pay day. Do not tell the job centre straight away when you get a job. The moment you get a job, the money stops from that day!0

Do you mean you want to carry on signing on while working, to tide you over? Depends how keen you are to get caught for benefit fraud and there fore also risking your new job.
Do you have anything you could take to cash converters to keep you going till your first pay cheque? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

This company is unlikely to give me an advance and I would not get a credit card because my credit card rating etc and CCJs
You won't get any advice regarding committing fraud on this board. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -

Don't rely on this!
I knew someone who had to ask their employer never to pay them when they were 'let go' a few days into the new job and of course needed to re-claim as simply didn't know how long it was going to be before getting any funds when it would transpire they had unwittingly never been signed off (true story) first time around so they actually said goodbye to the due wage as being the right thing to do, the only consolation if there was one was that JSA pay out was quicker. Don't put yourself in that position and I hope you can see how it can easily back fire?
Shop late at night to pick up discounted food or go more for the frozen lines, it doesn't have to be baked beans, won't bore you with the rest, you also try a credit union once in work and you've lasted more then a couple of weeks if still in a tight bind? Take comfort in this ultimately can get better.
As others have said, the only priority payments are council tax and landlord or anything cutting you off of course, you won't believe how that focuses the mind. All other bills can wait mind you.0 -
I don't know what you mean by "when do I next sign on?"
I signed on 3 years ago and it's been coming into my bank account every fortnight. I've never been invited to the job centre but did do an ATOS assessment.
I was ill at the time and it was originally incapacity benefit. Now I get ESA plus an illness component.
So I don't renew anything and I am wondering if the DWP would be unaware I was working until the actual wage came through.
How is this fraud if I am still in a position of needing money until my wage comes through? Ok so I am working but I'm not claiming benefits AND a wage, I'm wanting my next benefit to cover me till the end of August when my wage comes through.
I will phone them just now and see what they say.
I do have something I could take to cash converters, as someone suggested, but they are an insult. They tried to offer me £15 for a relatively new computer monitor once. They are charlatans and I'd only use them if I was about to go on the street.0 -
But you would be claiming benefits and a salary. It's just that your salary will be paid in arrears.
Because your ESA is paid in arrears you will 'only' have 2 missing weeks.
Ask for 2 weeks in advance from your employer. Even though you will only have 2 weeks pay at the end of the month this should still be more than you would be receiving in ESA.0 -
If you are on income-related ESA you could apply for a Budgeting Loan though it's unlikely the claim will be received until after your ESA claim has closed, which means the application would be turned down.
One of the categories for claiming a BL is expenses on starting work.
Could your local Jobcentre help speed up the application? It's unlikely but if you went there this afternoon you might be lucky and get the form faxed through to be dealt with today.0 -
It's quite easy for the DWP to see that you're working long before your first wage comes through, the new company will onboard you using your NI number and it's your NI number that is linked to your ESA claim, too.
They would definitely see this as benefit fraud, as soon as you start working your entitlement to ESA stops, even if your first wage is paid after a month.
You may be able to get a 4 week run on of HB, or potentially help from your council if they have an emergency loan fund, or you'll need to ask your bank for an overdraft/budget tightly/pawn something.
It's tough, but it's a very common situation.Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0
