Hello
After three years on ESA I have got a job and I start on Monday 3rd August 2015.
But my next ESA payment doesn't come through till the 12th of August.
That leaves me short on dealing with spending till the end of the month when I would get my first wage.
What can I do?

Ask your employer for an advance. Most employers are more than willing to give you some of first monthly pay a little early and take it back from the next pay packet.
Pay your rent late. You won't be evicted if you explain the rent will be two weeks late and it's a one off.
Pay other bills late. Gas, electric, water and even the council tax can all be paid late.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Have you informed then that you are starting work?
Your ESA is paid fortnightly in arrears so am unsure what you are saying about being paid on the 12th August? Is this because you haven't told them you are starting work? You must tell them , otherwise you will have an overpayment.
How long have you been on ESA? Is it income based? You may be eligible for a 4 week run on of HB if you have been claiming HB.0 -
Here's the link.

You need to have been claiming ESA for 26 weeks to get the extended HB.
Ask at the Job Centre. You may be able to claim working tax credits too.0 -
And congratulations on your new job. Hope it all goes well for you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You will get the final few days worth of benefit paid when you close your claim. From what you say, your next pay date would be the 12th of August so you will be entitled to 4 days money from ESA. Call ESA and let them know you are starting work on the 3rd. There shouldn't be any overpayment problem as they will have virtually 2 weeks notice to get the claim closed.0

What I mean is I start work on Monday 3rd August.
That job doesn't pay me till 28th August.
So what do I use to pay stuff that month if I am not getting ESA after the 3rd?0 -

As others have said already, you could ask for an advance on your pay but I'm not aware of any assistance available through DWP. Do you have any family you can borrow from to tide you over?0 -
Will the DWP know if I am working and signed on if it's just until a few days before my first wage comes through
This company is unlikely to give me an advance and I would not get a credit card because my credit card rating etc and CCJs0 -

You will be earning a wage.
your ESA will cease as you have started work an no longer need ESA.
You may qualify for a further 4 weeks HB if renting and Council Tax Support if claiming but you would need to speak to your local authority ASAP about claiming this help.
Once you get your last payment of ESA you will need to stretch this a little further than usual until you get paid. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
