Vodafone and end of contract notice required

This is an interesting one, well to me it is. I had a 2 year contract with Vodafone, through Carphone Warehouse, commencing June 2013, so come June 2015 I thought that was that, the contract was satisfied and I could carry on regardless. However I received a letter saying I owed £38. I queried it with Vodafone and I was told the charges were because I had not given 30 days notice that I wished to terminate the service. I explained that I was on a 2 year contract, fully paid up and that how could I be charged for a contract that no longer existed. But they insisted I should have given 30 days notice, and the T and Cs which I accepted were Carphone Warehouse and not Vodafone's and the notice to quit should have been explained. I did pay the £38 but feel Vodafone have acted very unprofessionally and not adhered to the terms of the contract. Is this normal?

Yep pretty normal from all the phone companies, you need to give 30 days notice to leave

Thanks Glentoran. Just struck me as strange that a contract agreed to doesn't expire without an addendum at the end. Put it down to experience, lol;

The contract is simply a minumum term, once that has expired you are free to leave at any point by giving 30 days notice. The line rental etc. continue as before on a rolling basis.

You may also find that vodafone have placed a late payment marker on your credit file.

To be pedantic, 2 years is the minimum term. The contract is open-ended.

If you look at it the other way, many people just continue on and they wouldn't be amused if the phone was just cut off as soon as two years were up
