misguided, for example, anyone that has had any other make of combi will know if the pressure in the system is too low the boiler won't work, it does this to protect itself from firing with no water in it, WB don't have a low water pressure switch so will run without any water in them, what happens if the boiler is in the loft ? the first thing you will know is no hot water or heating & by then its too late, new heat exchanger or boiler time & this won't be covered under your warentee as it's user error, try putting a pan on the hob with no water in it what happens ?

an expansion vessel that reqs the boiler to come off the wall to change,

pressure relief valve that on most boilers will take 30mins to change, WB at least two hours & reqs all the right hand side of the boiler to be removed & all the seals replaced or again the boiler removed from the wall

Is there anything else you would recommend Southcoastrgi? I've heard good things about Valiant and Viessmann.

Vaiillant aren't bad boilers fairly reliable & not bad to work on

Vissmann seem to be a growing brand in this country & i haven't heard anything really bad about them although steer clear of the 050 because it has rubber hoses inside that will clog up (vailillant had this issue & changed to copper),

personally i like Baxi, The new Ecoblue advance combi or platinum 10 yrs warentee or duo-tec 7 yrs warentee.

or look at a couple you may not have heard of, Atag or Intergas both give excellent hot water flow rates,

which ever boiler you decide make sure it's ERP compliant which is coming in later this year, you may have seen some good deals around at the mo that's because they are trying to get rid of them because they aren't ERP

Totally agree with Worcester being overpriced and not the best on the marketplace, they are a decent brand but have a brilliant marketing campaign that pushes the brand to the forefront but also pushes the price up.
A boiler with stainless steel heat exchanger is the way to go for longer life, vaillant as good as anybody, and baxi duotec as well.

The quote you had seemed to list all the right items needed to make up a good installation but does seem expensive even for the south east.

Don't under any circumstances buy a Baxi - we had a new one of these in a rented house I used to live in and it was the biggest pile of junk ever in the history of boilers. I'd rather poop in my hands and clap than have one of those things.

Any thoughts on Ideal Logic? Latest boiler man has suggested one, when I mentioned the Stainless Steel heat exchanger he has advised the Ideal Logic Vogue, with a ten year warranty.

Thanks so much for all your help everyone. It is so hard to work out who is being trustworthy. The man who came over on Friday, a Worcester Bosch accredited installer, told me that Baxi have a two year warranty. Load of rubbish...

You wouldn't expect a WB accredited installer to promote a Baxi, any more than a Ford salesman is going to promote Vauxhall. Most installers only fit one or maybe 2 brands and gain financial incentives for doing so.

I can understand that entirely, but he was the one that brought up baxi, not me, and I don't expect to be lied to.

Since it was a rented house I didn't take much interest but it did brake down a lot and I do remember the landlord telling me the cost of repairs exceeded the cost of the boiler several times over. It wasn't even an old boiler as it was installed new while we were there.
