iTalk!!!

Hi,

I have just found out that my mother has been signed up with italk for a landline contract following a 'visit' from a doorstop seller.

My mum is 75 years old and is showing signs of dementia and unfortunately she let this guy in for a chat.

the upshot is she is paying way over the odds and for her new service and the cheeky little beggar even got her to pay for a broadband package when it would have been blatantly obvious that most most advanced device she has in her home is a telly!

I have got her to cancel the direct debit so she doesn't lose any more money but I'm worried that as she actually signed something they will try and bully her when she says she no longer wants their service.

my mum has given me a letter of authority to deal with this on her behalf but I am struggling to work out how to get her out of this extortionate contract.

My first point is that given my mums medical condition, this makes her a vulnerable person and even though she has signed a contract she may have been feeling pressured into doing so.

Secondly, given that she was sold broadband when she has no device that would merit her having it, would that mean the product was not fit for purpose.

Its a shame that there are still people out there who can do things like this and sleep at night but my task is to put an end to it.

Any advice would be great.

TIA

    I'd say,
    don't worry,
...if any of the scumbags try it on,
just get in touch with Age Concern
and/or the local newspaper... they love a story like this.
    and the local MP
    Cheers

    Ourageous.

Says it all really that they use 0845 as their main contact number but fail to comply with the 1/7/15 regulations about declaring their Service Charge!

Anyway, her current provider (BT?) should write her a "Sorry you're leaving - are you sure?" letter which should give you the chance to prevent anything happening.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hi Tia,

My dad (69) has fallen victim to this company and they want to charge him £470 for internet and £130 for phone to get out of this contract. He was cold called and promised the same internet speed as BT (was never going to achieve this as we were on Fibre Optic BB and they never offered this to him)
Did you managed to get yours resolved?

    Thanks
    A
  • Dreadful experience from this company. I deal with a relatives's supplies and services as they are unable to but this company switched their telephone, which was part of Sky's telephone/TV package, over to themselves. My elderly relative, who has memory problems cannot remember talking to them and had no idea that the service had been switched. When I found out I asked Sky to get the phone line/number back but italk refused. When I cancelled the direct debit payment, italk set it up again, without my knowledge, under a different reference number. The bank have cancelled it again but advise that the company can try to set another up with a different reference after 90 days.
When dealing with italk about the whole matter over the telephone their male representative was very unpleasant to say the least and I felt he threatened me with high costs should I pursue my relative's leaving.
I am waiting to find out if they will refuse again to pass the number back to Sky and to what will happen next. I would appreciate advice with this matter.
