Advice on goods being sent that I didn't order.

Hey all, last week I ordered an camera from a well known online photography company. This item came next day as ordered and I thought that was it. All done. However..
Last night I had an email to say an item had been shipped from them and will be delivered today. I check my bank and paypal to see if any money had been taken out because I hadn't ordered anything else but no money had come out.
I then log into my account with them and lo and behold there is a new order for the same camera I ordered the week before but I didn't order it. It is now sitting at the post office waiting for me to collect it but I want to know where I stand legally on this item. Is it classed as unsolicited goods as I didn't place an order for it but they created a new one themselves or do I have to return it as its classed as a mistake?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

It is a simple mistake. You could either leave it at the sorting office and allow it to hopefully return to the sender, or collect it and arrange for the seller to collect it from you.
Either way, make sure you have not been charged for the second shipment.0 -
Thanks for your advice. This item was sent as a new order. Independent of my original order. One that I didn't create. I hadn't been back to their website until I got the notification an item had been shipped so I had no input in that order being created. Its also not a duplicate of my original order as my original order had a camera backpack and memory card on it and they are not in this new order.0

Just do as Wealdroam suggests and don't collect it from the delivery office.
It might be a good idea to contact the seller pointing out their mistake and advising them that the unordered camera will be getting sent beck to them.0 -
If you haven't paid for it then you need to give them the opportunity to get the goods back - in this case the post office will return it if not collected after 18 days. If they have charged you for it - advise them you wont be collecting it and that you want a refund raising.0

It may be helpful for you to read someone else's take on this:

Sorry if i come across this way. I read that article just before you posted the link. As i see it it fits as unsolicited goods and wanted to find out if it doesnt fit this scenario.
thanks for your help. it is appreciated.0 -
You can't keep it if that's what your asking.0

im not asking to keep it. im trying to understand where i stand from a legal point of view. i dont mind either way if i have to send it back or not.
But then, who doesnt like free stuff?0 -
I would collect it from the post office and then advise, like you have been advised by others to do, the company from which you (didn't) order it, that you have received it, don't want it and, if they send you a pre-paid label, you will send it back. This way, if you do suddenly see a charge on your bank/credit/debit card, you have something with which to negotiate a refund.0

Ok put the this round the other way and if they took two payments would you be happy enough and say okay it is a mistake but just keep it ?
No I thought not so do the right thing and return it to them, At least go and collect it and tell them to arrange a courier to come and pick it up so you have no expense.0
