Plusnet is owned by BT, but it isn't BT. Plusnet are still their own network. See http://www.plus.net/features/network/ for more info.

I am currently with Plusnet and am quite happy with the service received, but there will be others who have had negative experiences with them.

We moved to Plusnet recently from BT but they screwed up transferring my broadband and phones from BT and we were left without phones or internet for two weeks. Plusnet failed to give us an explanation as to what went wrong and their customer service was very poor - 25 mins average wait to get through to their customer support. Not good.

I moved from Virgin Media/TalkTalk to Plusnet back in May. Initially, it wasn't a very smooth experience as VM messed up their end of the switch.

However, eventually I was switched over with no perceptible break in service.

The Plusnet forums are very helpful, which is more than can be said about the phone support. It can take up to an hour to get through sometimes. The helpdesk is UK based, which counts for a lot in my book.

Yes, they are hiking their prices in September, but it appears that everyone else is doing the same!

    Would I recommend? I'm ambivalent.

They screwed up the first bill, they charged for a month's line rental even though I'd paid for a year's line rental up front. It was quickly sorted out and they gave me a free month so I was inclined to be kindly disposed to Plusnet.

The next problem wasn't so easily resolved. I signed up through a Money Saving Expert link which should have entitled me to £100 cash back. Plusnet quibbled and procrastinated, said I wasn't entitled, then said I was entitled and I'd be getting a cheque, when the cheque didn't arrive they again said I wasn't entitled. It took the threat of the small claims court to get them to pay.

If you do sign up, take screen dumps of every stage of the sign up process. I think if I'd done that it would have been easier to get them to agree that I was right.

One thing that bemused and annoyed me: at the time there were two offers, go direct to the website and get £75 cashback or go through an MSE link and get £100 cashback. I pointed out that this meant they owed me either £75 or £100, they insisted they owed me nothing. I might have accepted £75.

They seem to receive a lot of negative comments on Trustpilot - rating is 1.4/5.

OP, it would help if you said who your current supplier is. If, for example you are with BT or EE, then PN will probably be an improvement (who wouldn't be?). PN runs on the BT network, but customer service is much better.
