They follow once the young men have been housed and given money.0 -
Why should they HAVE to fight something that they are not involved with. Why should they risk death?!!! Would you?!!
They speak English so they come to the UK rather than other countries. If you were in their shoes you would want to travel somewhere that you spoke the language, yes?
Nice to see the Daily Fail readers are out in force today.
By the way - those seeking asylum get very limited access to benefits, they aren't entitled to work, or claim JSA. It isn't all a big free for all.
I think you'll find many of them don't speak englishtravelover0 -

Lots of European countries speak English as a secondary language so that's no excuse just to come to England.
Genuine asylum seekers usually have their documents to prove they are from a war torn country and are fleeing for their life.
AFAIK these people do not have papers.
As has been pointed out, where are their families running from this war?0 -

Remember that the 'migrants' are people just like you, who felt that they could not live under the rule of ISIS when their towns were taken over. Perhaps you could spare a few minutes to chat with them and reflect on how much more fortunate you are than others like you.
By far, the largest group of North Africans at Calais are Eritreans looking for a better life, rather than fleeing ISISChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Are you for real? They risk their lives to get from France to England because they can't be bothered learning a new language? Seriously? Why should they HAVE to fight something that they are not involved with. Why should they risk death?!!! Would you?!!

British tourists go abroad all the time unable to speak the language of the country they're visiting. British people even get jobs in countries where they can't speak the language, I know a few.
The idea anyone would risk their life to get from one perfectly civilised country to another because of the language is the biggest load of tosh I think I've ever read on this board!0 -
Who knows exactly why some of them choose to come to the UK? Maybe its the Gregg's sausage rolls, maybe its the weather, maybe its the fact that many seem to come from Muslim countries and the French are far less tolerant of Muslim intolerance than the UK are. But it's not because the UK offers something which no other European country does. Granted, they may get more in the UK than they would in Greece or Italy, but the Germans and Scandinavians in particular are more generous.
Whilst I can understand the plight of some of these people, the fact is that Europe simply cannot absorb the countless millions of people who would like to come here for a better life. I don't know what the solution is, but simply letting them all in is not it.Remember Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

We are due to go on holiday on the 14th August to Holland via the Channel Tunnel. Woke up this morning to the news they had yet more problems on the french side during the night and i'm now getting slightly concerned about our trip
.
I'm not worried about the departure journey, but our return journey is at 9pm at night and with delays this would obviously push us further back into the night, when the trouble over there seems to be happening. I believe that the trouble is happening near the freight part, and although I have used the tunnel several times before I can't remember where this is in ralation to the car part and if the trouble is likely to spill over.
Normally i wouldn't worry about this sort of thing as I'm sure the media do build it up, but with 5 children travelling with us, their safety is obviously our main concern.
Just wondered if anyone else is in a similar situation or can offer me some advice on what to do.
Thanks
Kel
Wave if you see me, we are on the Dover-Calais ferry the same day unless P&O allow us to cancel (then we will go DFDS to Dunkirk)0
