Well from what I read, after 30 days on Win10 after having upgraded from Win7, your old Win7 licence key becomes irrevocably associated with your win10 installation, so no longer useable on Win7.
So yes you can do a Win7 clean install with your install disc whatever and when you enter up your licence key it will say invalid.

You are just making it up. It's only the option to revert within the OS that disappears after a month

The reason for this is that it deletes the Windows.old folder after a month.

Indeed you have paid for the licence.
    It is not being revoked.
MS will by you agreeing to it when you upgraded to Win10 to transfer the licence rights from your OS being either Win7/8 to Win10.

    Edit
I'm sure that after 30 days you could do an image restore of your win7 installation and I'm sure it would work - for a time until MS decide during one of its 'checks' that maybe that the licence is now only valid on win 10

Nope, you can still re-install your old OS if you want, see here.

    Q. Still me with the OEM and Windows 8.1 with the embedded key. What if I upgrade now, and let’s say 16 months from now I want to go back to Windows 8.1 --can I do that? And then back to windows 10 a few months after that? Can I go back and forth whenever I want long as its on the same PC ?
    A. YES, YES and YES, although I can’t imagine any usage scenario where you’d actually want to keep flipping back and forth between two operating systems like that.
To the first YES: the ability to simply revert your upgrade from 8.1 to Windows 10 is for just 30 days. After that you can revert back but it will require a reinstall of 8.1.
To the second YES: If you do the Windows 10 upgrade in the first 12 months it will be free for the lifetime of that device so you will be able to install Windows 10 after that on that system.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

So if you were to make a backup copy of the Windows.old folder and the registry they could may be reinstated at any time ???

Why would you do that? Just clone your system.

This is why I suggested that we should do a full system backup first (on an other drive!)

You can safely delete the "windows.old" file any time you like (to make room) and still have the ability to recover your previous system by sticking in the System recovery disk and recover they system image. regardless of what Win10 thinks.

    ;)

But if you have upgraded to Win10 and haven't done a full system backup. Hope is not lost, it might be useful to roll-back to the old install THEN do the system backup and reinstall Win10.

It might not be as clean as doing it first but it will be something to go back to if things go bad!
