It's gonna hit us like a big red bus :(

It will hit some but not all. You pay childcare without help. That's your killer. Imagine a fairy godmother who looked after your children with no childcare. It's too subjective to say win/lose.

    its going to cripple us.

I don't work as I care for my disabled son, my hubby earns £12.5k a year.

we will loose £170 a month I think I worked it out as, that's huge that's almost a quarter of my husbands salary.

As I suspected this government are hitting families hard and in your circumstances it really is disgraceful! I think Im going to totally lose my entitlement but its families like yours that rely on the money! Hope things work out for you

But how much do you receive in benefits in total? £170 is a lot to lose out a month, without a doubt, the question is whether £170 allowed you some luxuries before that you will now be able to enjoy any longer, or is it going to mean that you are seriously struggling to pay for essentials.

Do you need to care for your son full-time or could you, like other posters here, take on a job around your hubby's?

Can you define what luxuries are?

I only qualified for CTC in May when my husband left me and our two children. I work 30 hours per week and have no option to increase hours as my employer is actually in the process of reducing staff.

It will definitely bite as I will now lose approx £200 per month so I am looking at cutting my cloth now to be ready for the change.

Good point because I think it probably comes down to that. For me, it's any mobile phone beyond what it is intended for, calls and some texts. It's SKY when you can have freeview, it's a car when it is a convenience. By that I mean that you live somewhere where there is transport available, even if it means travelling taking longer. Holidays abroad, birthday parties beyond inviting a few friends over and organising yourself, huge Christmas celebrations, designer clothes, expensive activities, new furniture, heating on during the day, take aways...

This should be the baseline, with one luxury after another being introduced as they can be afforded with additional income or a cut in costs (ie. childcare costs).

i get carers allowance of 3240 roughly a year and hubby works 24 hours a week as he helps me out with my sons care. we are talking 5 hospital trips a week, 4 of his consultants are not based locally.

Our son gets high rate dla.

We have absolutely no luxuries (depends what are classed as luxuries lol) in life, we are in a dmp. All our income left over goes into that.

I dont think from working out the figures we wont be able to pay our mortgage etc but i am going to have to drop that amount off our dmp payments. Lets hope they default as im still being charged interest on some.

24 hours work with a mortgage and debts is going to be tough. If you are in a DMP have you considered if home ownership is best for you going forward.
