Before mot'ing it again ask a mechanic if the crash damage will cause an mot fail. If not or it only needs minor work a car which passed two months ago shouldn't need much, if any, work for a new mot. Use the same tester as testers opinions can vary.

Thanks , is there anything I can say or use to try and getter a higher amount from the third parties insurers . I have tried Auto trader - Glass - CAP and all come up with a valuation from between £1100 - £1400 ( similar millage ) .

Been offered £650 but i have to pay for the VIC test and MOT .

I have explained this to the third parties insurer but they say they are limited to how much they can offer . I thought around £900 would be fair but i doubt if they would go that high .

Theys said it would not make a differnce to the amount they offer as it was work which needed doing anyway . I was able to get them up to £700 and I keep the car I( do not think i can get anymore out of them ) . They said they can only take into account private sales and cars that have been sold rather than what they are being offered for .

The MOT went through okay but had to pay £100 to sort out the damage to the back of the car ( £135 ) . Waiting for my car to come up on the system so I can book a VIC appointment . VOSA said that there was a backlog of around 1 month to get an appointment but not too sure where i stand as my insurer said i had 2 weeks to get the check done.

VOSA also said they will be ending the VIC service in October .

Anyway thanks for everyone help , it is much appreciated as my own insurer are completely useless .

A few days ago I almost bought a 2011 Qashqai for a good price.
I clicked on the eBay "check vehicle status report" for £8.99.
Car...immaculate and with current MOT and TAX and INSURANCE....was shown as "a total loss insurance write-off".
I phoned my insurer...esure...they said that the quote they had already given me would not be honoured. I asked that if they "consult other insurers to check for fraud etc" why had they not blacklisted this vehicle.
Their reply was "it is up to the seller to tell you whether the vehicle had been subject of a previous insurance claim or repair".
What if I hadn't told esure of this "write off"...."we would have allowed you to pay for the policy but in the event of a future claim we would NOT be liable to pay for any damage to the vehicle as it had already been a total loss claim and would therefore be NIL VALUE".
SCAM OR WHAT??? Happy to take my policy out and £225 cash...but my £8300 car is worth NIL!!!

Be aware of any insurance "total loss write off"...your car and resale value is NIL in event of a claim!

As with your previous thread, you did know about it, you didn't buy it so no loss. If you had bought it unawares and did have a claim, the ombudsman would have a very dim view of an insurance company failing to pay out.

    More stress

Just an update - Insurers require MOT and VIC check within 2 weeks .

I was able to get the MOT done with no problems , when I phoned for the VIC check , VOSA
said my car was not on the system as of yet and even when it was it could take up to 4 weeks for an appointment.

I have explained the situation to my insurer but they say the need all the documents within 2 weeks otherwise my insurance
is void and there is a £50 cancellation fee .

Any ideas where I stand legally as the person at VOSA said as long as I have made an appointment they insurer should continue to insure as it is out of my hands .

Also how would I get a VIC check if my car is not insured and I cannot take it to the test centre.

Any help ( again ) would be much appreciated
