Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to help .

I have just tried Glass and it comes up with an valuation of

Private sale price from £1,130.00 to £1,370.00

which seems to tally up with autotrader as they range from £1000 - £1400 .

When i said the offer was quite low they said it was due to the high millage ( 132000)
and there was a similar car on autotrader which was for sale for £670 but failed to mention it was sold with no service history and the seller made clear it was priced to clear out .

Also they did not mention the other 7 cars which were over a £1000.

If they have offered £660 what would be a realistic price to aim for ?

    thanks again

Does your valuation from Glasses take into account your car's mileage?

Cannot select the option about the mileage . The other parties insurance are phoning me back today and said there was some movement in the price they offered but not a lot .

Don't ever accept a first offer, but as they are starting out with what is a realistic price for your car, you should be thinking that with a safety check over and some duct tape you'll be getting a free car out of it. The boot intrusion is the key. If it has a ripple that can be easily taken out, fine. If it's more than that, it really doesn't want money wasted on it.
Your valuation from Glass's is an example of how consumers really shouldn't look through it or CAP. The values are a start before mileage, history, spec., colour and condition are taken into account.

for 70 quid id buy it back regardless.. a vic is 41 quid.
current mot still stands but it may be a condition of your insurer continuing to insure it with a new one..
ask for 700 and the car..
£70 is scrap price.. cheap as you know the car. Get the bumper reattached and live with the dents.

edit- if you're local to durham id give the £70 ;)

Just got off the phone with my insurer and they said that I have two weeks to get my car a new MOT and VIC checked if not my insurance policy will be void . Even when I get the work done they will not renew ( up next april) my insurace as it is CAT C car .

The other parties insurance would only come upto £650 and I keep the car which i have until friday to decide what do ( will cost me around £100 for the two checks if there are not other issues ). I have booked the MOT and hopefully it will pass but not too sure about VIC check .

All through not fault of my own . GUTTEE

    Who are your own Insurers?

My insurers are Octagon , I thought I would only have to get a VIC check inform the DVLA and would be back on the road with no stress .

The MOT is a worry , if it fails and then i have £650 ( minus the MOT fees ) to a find a replacment car which is not going to happen .

I would have been better off not informing the insurers and just living with the damage even if it was not my fault.
Luckily I did not allow them to collect the car to do the repair estimate as they would have had the upper hand and i doubt if i would have seen my car again .

It is not a desirable car or expensive to most people but it has been reliable which i need for work

    Octogan...

Next time don't buy on price alone and avoid Insurers based in Gibraltar.

Most Insurers would continue offering renewal on a written off car.

Requiring an MOT within two weeks if fairly standard, if it over runs by a few days and you inform them before the times runs out they'll normally allow a small extension if they happy you're sorting it

If you are getting cash in lieu direct from a third party insurer, who is writing it off?
