Northern line is actually improving. And there are plans to split it into two separate lines which is expected to improve things further. Having said that, I used to say that there was a difference in attitude on Northern Line and Victoria Line. On the victoria line, if you went to the platform and it said 3mins to next train you would think "just missed a train!". On the northern line if it said 5mins to next train you would think "great, just in time for the train!)

Having taken the Northern Line in my previous job for over 4 years, I can't share your praise. But then again, I got on at London Bridge and the trains were always rammed (with people getting on at Tooting most probably!) which in the summer in particular was really unpleasant...

I would recommend Ealing and the surrounding area although as stated before it is quite expensive, but safe and desirable. An alternative is Acton - West Acton especially is very pretty and is walking distance to North Ealing station (approx 10mins) which is on the Piccadilly line (30mins to central London).

How about Northolt/Ealing parts of it are very quiet and peaceful and you could get a 2bed house for around £250K it would only mean one change on the tube at Oxford Circus I think to Picadilly Circus it has plenty of buses too. We have been here for 9yrs and love it as its so close to everything good about London but on the edge of fields and farmland..... worth a look anyway

  • Wood Green is on the Picadilly Line (20mins max) never have any probs on Picadilly. Got a shopping centre and Supermarkets on your doorstep. You can even take a 29 bus into Central London (used to do this in the summer when I was 8 months pregnant). Wood Green to Warren Street used to take 45mins by bus.

Palmers Green another option as it's down the road from Wood Green but getting very pricey.
