ebay and amazon are sending me mad!
asus am1i-a motherboard , little baby ITX thing ,
going in a very small case , oblong cuttout on the back , but no room for expansion cards
I have a asrock z97 itx board , and like the mini pcie wireless card that came with it
I am after a half height PCI/e card (NOT MINI) wifi , with a couple of sockets for the clip on antennae , I also want a generic antenna and lead .
not a lot of room , so got to be half height , seen some converters (china) but think they might be to tall ,
ebay or amazon (or anyone else) links please.
probably help if I put the right words in the search box
PS I am not adverse to removing a backplate , IF a PCI card has a antennae with a flex lead

ok , thanks , that takes me to a page of cards , that are too large and with fitted antani , , the unit I req is like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/RTL8188EE-802-11b-Adapter-Wireless-Realtek/dp/B00PANB0RE/ref=sr_1_18?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1438068887&sr=1-18&keywords=pcie+wifi+-mini
is that a PCI card? , will that plug into a PCI slot , or is that another Laptop card , made for a smaller slot?0 -
this is the case I am using , as you can see there are 2 "pushouts" (circular) , one is for the PSU the other can be used as an antennae , as you can see its short on height , and there is nowhere to allow a card to mount0
-
edit: that is not my motherboard , and as such there is no space on the rear of the motherboard for antenna0

You want one of these then:
http://linitx.com/product/ablytech-pcie-mini-half-size-to-pcie-mini-adapter/12889?gclid=CIPEqNKu_cYCFS3MtAodwHYMTg
To use a 1/2 heigh card
Or a use PCI mini card without the adaptor, they will fit into the x4 pcie on your MB:

for info:

Just buy an antennae kit afterwards.

NB you did say initially that you were after a 1/2 height NON MINI

cheers , getting closer now , thanks , looks like I could "chop the top off" and use a low profile card in it0

yes I know about the front panel , I need to install a "flirk" r/c unit in there , I have several usb "dongles" for wifi , the best being a edimax , but they are pathetic (at least under a Linux/openelec setup) , I cannot believe the speed of the wifi card supplied with the asrock z97 itx board , under windows and Linux
speedtest
windows:
wired : 62 mbps
wifi (wifi card) 58 mbps
usb dongle : 25mbps
edimax: 33 mbps
so this is the reason for trying to use an internal card.
plan B: might be to buy the asus am1i itx , as this has a mini pci slot , but lacks other things0 -
Why buy a mini ITX board without built in WiFi?0
-
please advise me of a low powered ITX board (amd) of a reasonable price that has on board wifi?
non do , some have skts for a board , but only the expensive intel chipset ones (and only a few) come with a wifi board
I own the asrock z97 ITX board , however I am struggling to find a low wattage CPU to go in it , and I cannot find a 10A PLUS PSU in order to use a i3-4170. (54w)
the asus am1i itx is an alternative , (but a bit more expensive) , but has a WIFI skt ,WIFI UNIT NOT SUPPLIED , so I thought there might be a way of utilising the spare PCI skt on the board I am going to use
so the question back to you
wanted:
itx board WITH BUILT IN WIFI to take a 25w AMD Athlon 5350 Quad Core Processor (Socket AM1, 2.05GHz, 2MB, 25W, AMD Radeon 3, )
please suggest one
PS: a lesser board would cost about £25 , and a wifi card about £12 , please do not exceed this0
